DB9 engine ticking noise - help please
Discussion
Things like the alternator are not entirely out of the question. As these components do get quite hot when the engine is up to temp.
Many components or anything metallic to that matter will react to changes in temperature.
Bearings (alternator, drive belt idler wheels, tensioner, air con clutch etc) are all items to be checked.
As Slacker as mentioned and also Mr C privately, we really need to hear the actual noise, rather than a description.
YouTube a video of the engine cold, then warm, then hot.. get your phone at the front round the sides over the top and if possible under the car. This way we will get a true measure of how it sounds, or at least as best we can without being there in person.
And just to clarify, the tick is present at a stand still in neutral?
If so then everything rearwards of the clutch mechanism is out of suspicion.

Please make sure you take lots of picture and do a good write up, for us guys that are genuinely interested.
Indeed. There is a market in voyeurism on blowing up a perfectly good V12 engine !!
Have you sought an opinion from the professionals Mavo

Hasn't he done 5000 miles since the changes to the valve train? I am curious how having done that mileage that the engine will just blow up because of the work.
Holy delayed reaction, slacker !!!There is a pun going on regarding a ticking noise and an explosion.
Really interested in hearing what the pros are saying, rather than tittle tattle on a public forum.
I have a 2006 DB9 with 48k miles and just started same ticking coming from lower engine/torque tube area every so often only after getting to operating temp - other than that runs like the wind. What was your final outcome to isolate issue - after reading whole thread you have been through it all!

Huge, nonsensical, fantasy thread or not... please take it to a specialist to listen to, identify and cure. Stethoscopic nonsense and guesswork is not the way to keep to your car running. Seriously. As commented, there is an engine ticking noise in my DBS, at 3.000 rpm when temperature is hot . After several tests in the dealer, the noise was recorded and sent to the factory. The answer of the factory is that this noise is normal in DBS models until 2009. After 2010 the noise is fixed.
To be honest, it is difficult to accept that this annoying noise is "normal" considering the price of this car.
