I think someone asked what the subframe looks like inside re rust. This is the main lower tubes inside. It does look like burrs from when the hole was drilled! Not good but could be worse, 06 28k miles

You need the V8V workshop manual, i've got the DB9 manual, does anyone have one they can send to Dungman??
Thanks Paul. I have the manual but, unless I’m being stupid, it doesn’t list a measurement.

Exciting times - I used a Jack to Jack up the wheels. It’s tricky, but do-able. I did have a post on it as I asked the same question, but can’t seem to find it.
Thanks Jonny. That’s the plan. Should have measured before taking it all apart.

Hate being left in the lurch, so just nipped out to the garage. 38.5cm

Luckily it was the same both sides. That’s from the centre ish of the centre cap to the underside of the rear arch lip.

I jacked up under the shock mount. Doing it under the wheels can result in the wheel turning and the Jack slipping.

Just doing my subframe and noticed that the one of the bungs in the internal chassis rails are missing. I am sure I read somewhere that it is a Ford part but can’t find the the post, any one know where I can get some. Thanks
I used this as I only needed one https://www.astonmartinbits.com/models/5-V8-Vantag...
These plugs and many other bits are also available online from the Essentra Components web site.

I needed a new clutch on my 2006 V8V so James of DAE was tasked with the job. Figured whilst it was there with half the stuff off we may as well do the rear subframe.
Glad I did as it was pretty ugly. Picture below.

That subframe is probably the worst Ive seen, probably surface rust and definitely ready for a refurb.

Sensible to get it sorted whilst the clutch was out. Surprised BR etc don’t suggest doing it with every clutch change and having an exchange subframe on the shelf to ensure an in and out, rather than sending the customer’s subframe off for sorting.

That’s actually not a bad idea,

It’s an idea I am floating with a pal who has a workshop and could do this. I’ve no idea if the subframes are common across all Vantages or if they have been changed over the years. If the latter it would be harder to offer a ‘drive through’ (yes I know that won’t work!!).

I dont know how some of these sub frames have ended up so bad, perhaps extended daily winter use ?

My car was in for a service this week and they inspected underneath, sent me a video. All looked fine and no concern on the sub frame or underbody in general.

I took a look myself today, wiped parts clean that I could access and found clean surface underneath, with the bare hints of corrosion starting around some fasteners etc.

This is on a 2012 Roadster, owned by me since 2015 and covered 63k miles, with no winter use in my ownership.

Just off the phone with Mark at AML Performance abd mentioned the exchange subframe with clutch change. Turns out they already offer the service, so can have the car in and out within 2 days.

One for the end of the driving season….

Wonder if subframe corrosion is included under the 10 year perforation warranty?

I've not heard of a successful claim.

I think the issue would be the word "perforation". As far as I'm aware, while they might look scabby the rear subframes wont actually rust through (or perforate) within the 10-year period, so it's essentially cosmetic (until, much later, it isn't). Willing to be corrected though.
