I have watched F1 for as long as I can remember, 50+ years, and Lance Stroll comes in for a lot of stick because his dad bought the team and then because Racing Point is a stupid name for an F1 team he bought Aston Martin so the team had a much more cool name. smile

As a driver though he's okay, certainly not a crash a race like Maldonado or mobile chicane like Andrea de Cesaris. You don't have to be Nostradamus to predict that he will be overshadowed by Alonso this season but equally I think the criticism of Stoll is because of his position not his racing.

You have therefore watched the sport from,
World Champions, who beat Ferrari.

to,
After three years of trying, we wish we could keep up with Ferrari, then overtake them to be World Champions.

I was slightly jesting about Lance Stroll, but getting the sack might be less of a worry for him.
My wife told me today, that Felipe Drugovich will drive if LS is not fit.

I've been in the Tyrrell wood shed smile

P.s. Tyrrell went onto become the all conquering Mercedes team of today
Aston Martin was originally Jordan F1

Yes, the famous second hand, ex-military shed is still there.
A marvellous giant killing story of British determination, achieved with skill and modest finance.

It all began on the 9th January 1964, by a Timber Merchant and a Married Women, one share each.

Wonderful.

Yes, the famous second hand, ex-military shed is still there...
And now the site is being redeveloped there are plans to relocate the shed to Goodwood race circuit.
I really hope that happens.

Yes an ideal location. There was talk about Brooklands, but Goodwood would represent a more appropriate era and it was where Ken Tyrrell first saw Jackie Stewart drive.

I think the Tyrrell descendents might own the freehold of the site, if so, I am sure they would want the shed to be kept in good hands, rather than just destroyed. A very ordinary structure, but with such unique history.
I join you in hoping it is preserved.

I don't know what is proposed for that site. Surely not more new houses. The local schools are overwhelmed already. Children being driven miles every day, to other schools further away. They still keep on about green net zero developments. The reality seems to be net hypocrites.

Hmm, suspiciously good. Either the other teams haven't started trying, or the AM pit crew have been surreptitiously shoving cheese & pickle sandwiches down the other cars' air intakes...

If so, they have got away with it again, in the 2nd free practise Alonso was quickest….

Well well! Perhaps I should throw my 22/23 ISA allowance at AM shares! Or maybe Cognizant scratchchin

smile

Often people are tempted to buy shares, after they have seen them double in 4 months !
They feel they have missed out and don't want to miss the continuing share price increase.
Might even borrow, to magnifying their expected gain. - yikes

Who knows is the real answer.

Does 'win on Sunday, sell on Monday still work?
Do you think a few wins, could quickly double demand for the road cars? That would help.

If you do not have access to live TV coverage, then this is probably the best alternative.

I'm not going to invest in AM, but as and when they go bankrupt again, do the shares become worthless?

I would have bought some shares in George Russell though, after he took over Lewis's car a few years ago and was only pulled in to save embarrassment.

It sounds as though you have never experienced this, John.
My strategy has improved, so luckily no receiverships for very long time. In fact no companies making losses at the moment.

At the time of receivership, multiply your ownership percentage of the business by zero and the answer you get smile, should be fairly close to the value of your shareholding.

Can be even more frustrating, when the receiver establishes debts exceed assets, therefore no value remains for shareholders, but the business name is sold. Shareholders have nothing, but they then see the same name business resume trading.

Some Aston Martin shareholders have already been wiped out.
During the 1 for 20 capitalisation, everyone owning 19 shares or fewer, were 'shown the door'.

Interesting email received just now from AML celebrating “our first formula one podium for 2023”

Muddying the waters between the fee paying car company and the f1 race team who benefits from the payment for the use of the name….

Slightly different topic (but obviously still regarding AM enthusiasts so not so far off topic); is anyone doing the AMR team hospitality package at Le Mans this year?

My son and I will be there, we have a rented a house in town to stay in for the duration, going down Thursday coming back Monday morning.

Just been talking to someone about this who was waxing lyrical about Alonso on the weekend and the Aston Martin team. I dont think most people realise that they are two separate entities.

If the F1 team do well this season will that have a negative impact on the car business by making the sponsorship even more expensive next year?

I could 100% guarantee that 99% of people viewing don't know the difference.

Clearly you don’t work in marketing.

The same guy owns the brand and the F1 team. That’s way more than most teams. Plus for Everyman that makes it one and the same.

Drive to Survive has been transformative for F1. So many people I know that had zero interest in F1 now follow it. The audience is huge. Massive. And it also has dragged the US into following F1.

People love a sentimental underdog. People also adore Aston Martin as a brand. 1+1 = 3.

It’s a massive stage now. Whatever paltry amount changes hands for sponsorship is absolute peanuts compared to the current exposure and sentiment. Even down to seeing the 707 and the F1 Vantage along with F1 car in the same colours. It’s all establishing an amazing connection in people’s minds.

Everyone on here craps on Stroll endlessly but perhaps he might be onto something.

The clever marketing even extended to releasing all the press drive stories on the Valkyrie just after the F1 result. Again in the same colours and branding Aston as making the most extreme road car ever. Even down to carefully selected journalists. (Although Lieberman made himself look stupid and I normally like this stuff). It’s pretty damn clever.

Having said all that, it does seem too good to be true. The next few races will tell the story.
