Undertaking is illegal.
So is being sat in the middle lane for no reason. If you're getting undertaken I would question why there is enough space in another lane for people to get by? Surely you should move back over if the motorway is free?
It's probably due to motorway driving not being part of the driving test. I don't think even dual carriageway driving is part of the test (many years since I passed mine), even though it is usually covered during lessons. So we are not taught proper lane maintenance.

Some people sit in the middle lane cos they don't want to move over to the left and have to move back to the middle next time they encounter a slow car.

Others sit in the fast lane cos they think they're faster than everyone else and ignore that there's someone faster stuck behind them.

Then you have a queue in the fast lane because they're trying to get past someone hogging the middle lane who can't be bothered to move to the left lane even though it's clear. Then you'll have some nutter fed up of being stuck in the queue in the fast lane who'll move over 2 lanes at >90mph and go past everyone.

Until one of the middle lane hoggers suddenly moves back into the left lane without checking their wing mirror and blind spot...

Undertaking in an aggressive or reckless manner could be considered Careless Driving or more seriously Dangerous Driving, both of which are legally enforceable offences.
The above is the sort of undertaking that I am referring to. frown

I was told..

Anything in the highway code that starts "Should..." is guidance
Anything in the highway code that's starts Must.." is law

We think this thread is long, head over to the advanced driving or police/law/legal forums for endless rants on undertaking. Now.. I MUST clean all the sahara off my car before Sunday

Thanks Ian, mind you there's always something to do. I've got a set of new HT leads in the garage waiting to be fitted and it needs an oil change and grease-up! Unfortunately Denise has got me a list of jobs lined up in the garden frown

Brilliant blast around the B roads of Devon getting to know the new carsmile

Plus the opportunity to take some photos with a better background. I hope BravoV8V approves of the new shorter front plate.

Ordered from fancyplates.com to specific size yesterday morning - arrived with today's post - excellent service smile

You were right - looks much better plus I took the opportunity to have blue borders instead of red - thanks.

Not the car per se, but had a set of alloy wheel centers machined up to hold an AM wheel badge (from NP cars, I think). These are for a set of aftermarket wheels I will be fitting to my car in the near future.

I hate the middle lane hoggers but there are parts of the M6 inside lane that are just dangerous beyond belief. Try joining the M6 south from the M56 and stay in the slow lane. The HGVs have melted two troughs in the road surface that mean you can let go of the steering wheel for several miles if you have large testes.

No joking - try it !! smile
