I wasn't sure about that. Does the new regular Vantage (no S) also have the Sportshift II now?

It's beyond me what the difference still is between the Vantage and the Vantage S nowadays. Is that just the 20hp and some carbon bits?
Pretty much that frown
If you spec a Vantage up to S level it costs more wink

I wouldn't say that an SL55 is soul less Mr G. Sure they don't have as much character as an Aston, but they're a phenomenal car that never failed to raise a smile from me. Hardly like a dull 3 series or something smile

Don't disagree with that
What annoyed me was his lack of research in order to complete his job professionally
His "know it all" attitude didn't help

+1 to Prince George here - SL55 AMG (previous series) the most characterful Merc for a decade. I still want one just for the NOISE they make!!

well as you know Yeti I owned one.......and they do make a wonderful noise and it was probably a tad quicker than my DB9 but it didn't make you feel great......anyway back to the Yank and his review, It was a bit like knocking Paul McCartney for his singing at the opening ceremony......he was a bit crap but he did write "Hey Jude" so he's forgiven

I did about 3k miles in one of my dads SL55s a few years ago (it's what convinced me to get the SL350). I thought it was great fun, properly brutal! Plus all the toys you would ever want, fairly discreet and a fair bit faster than the DB9.

Yeti, the R230 SL is looking amazing value, have you not considered one instead of the 911? Can get a 55 for less than £25k! And you could take it to DMS and make a right brute of a car out of it smile

Actually - if we all took off our heavily tinted AML glasses off I think he has a number of valid points.

I rented a Ford in the States last week that had better infotainment and driver interface than any Aston 5 times the price. This is also the reason why i am very reluctant to "upgrade" my V12V to the roadster - nothing has changed exempt that the roof has been chopped off. For a car that is launched in 2012/13 that is simply not good enough and represents poor value for money.

My Land Rover was way better over rocks, mud and through fields and rivers than my DB9. If someone posts a clip on youtube frothingly ranting about that, I would equally give him no credence at all.

If you select a car based on its infotainment system (not even sure what that is), then perhaps Aston shouldn't be your top choice. How good is the one in your DB4? wink

Not quite sure why people are getting their knickers in a twist here - like most cars, there are always a few things you can knock but when the review is not just overly biased, but steps over that mark into clearly unprofessional (he refers to it having a dual clutch 6 speed box from memory, when this is a 7 speed single clutch box, which he obviously doesn't understand how to use or is adding comedic effect), I don't take any of it remotely seriously

Alwin & Mikey have brought up most of the other technical innaccuracies

I'd add one other point though. The typical Audi has £10-15k+ of extras added these days. Same with Porsches. Ferraris & Mclarens are 25-30k. Astons actually come remarkably well equipped as standard and the average extras list is therefore signifcantly lower.

Yes Sat nav is ludicrously priced, but no more so than on Mercs, Audis, Ferraris et al. The basic V8 is the only car in the range where it is not standard and that's a car that's had a recent price drop. But all Astons come with a 'true' full leather interior, including extensive use on the dash & doors plus alcantara headlining. They also come with tracker (in the UK), tyre pressure monitoring with a display of the pressures, decent alloys and a reasonable range of metallic paints at no cost. By way of example, Mclaren charge extra for tracker, full leather interior, sat nav (5k and still not functional) and tyre pressure monitoring. Porsche offer a variety of leather upgrades that get quite pricey and all bar the most expensive options have non leather seat backs, non full leather interiors, etc

Aston are starting to go a bit loopy with the pricing of some of their cosmetic upgrades but they are far from necessary to still have a really well specced great looking vehichle
