Jag F type v V8 Vantage
Discussion
I recently had a chance to have a good look at the F-Type. I've always been a Jag fan, and I've had an XK140 and an E-Type. I was very excited to see the new car. IMO, it's very, very nice. But it's not even close to being as nice as a V8V. It may well have more tech, but it doesn't look or feel anywhere near as expensive or as finely crafted as the Aston. The difference in quality of the interior materials is massive. The Aston looks like it's worth every single penny of the difference in the cars' list prices. I really like the F-Type and I hope it does well. But the V8V looks and feels like a car in a completely different price range. I don't think there is anything wrong with this, either, as this has always been the case with Jags and Astons, and both are great cars.

+100As I wrote before, the touch/quality of materials in the new F type is ........ below Z4/TT level, but it looks gorgeous!

So whilst vantage is heavier, the difference is far smaller than you might imagine considering one is such a new design with the weight of R&D budget that they have compared to the other 'overweight, old fashioned car' that is vantage. This is partly because of the XK related chassis that also explains the quite frankly inescusable width, particularly without mirrors, of such a supposedly compact and certianly snug cabinned car
All the F-Type needs is to be a little lighter, be fast (the absolute figures don't really matter that much) sound exquisite, have a quick steering rack, and it will be a blinding success . Punters wont analyse things the way you do. The Aston is the better car, but then, and this is from a dyed in the wool Jag man, they always were. What do people get from a 911? Excitement. The F-Type will deliver that in spadefuls.AWV12 said:

However, Jag to me is Golf Club Captain...just retired with his own parking space and private plate. It has a beige interior...his name is Geoff.....and he enjoys cruises.
The F Type does have some redeeming features, the rear looks good but the front is way to fussy.....think Vorderman.
Impossible to compare the 2 brands....more comparable brand / model wise to the 911 than the Aston. Can't see it taking 'huge' sales from the Vantage as some have suggested.

Overhere it is only compared with Boxster/Cayman as well as SLK 55 AMG or TT-RS. That is the league of the F-type, nothing more, nothing less. Edited by Robbo66 on Saturday 30th March 21:00
Road & Track has an article on the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante http://www.roadandtrack.com/go/first-looks/2014-as... Kind of looks like a slightly larger 2014 Jaguar F-Type
As far as looks the two cars are somewhat similar (I do like the F-type better - but I admit I am biased since I ordered an F-type)
Here the vehicles side by side in the same picture (or should I say top 'n bottom)

Dear Gerryjag "somewhat similar".
Are you pissed ?
I have nothing bad to say about the Jag but similar it is not.
Of course there is a huge saving to be made if you are a poor person and there is nothing wrong with that.
Go along and play with your mates on the Jag forum.

There are some similarities to my eye - like the rising line in the door leading to the rear arch. A world with more British sports cars is a good thing to my mind.
The F type I saw in the metal looked fantastic (the pics in mags don't seem to do it justice)- but it looked HUGE! Seemed much higher than my Vantage which I was driving at the time.
I hope you enjoy yours Gerry! Funky looking motors

Is this Jaguar admiration a typical UK thing?
Not seeing much admiration on this page. Mostly....."it's just a Jag". But serious: the F-type is great competition for a Boxster or SLK 55, but in no way looks like a Vqs II......

Agree but even I can see some "small" difference The F type I saw in the metal looked fantastic (the pics in mags don't seem to do it justice)- but it looked HUGE! Seemed much higher than my Vantage which I was driving at the time.
