Gutted....what to do now?

very sorry to hear your bad news.......i would also insist on Aston Works doing the job ....I would want a replacement vehicle and I would be asking for compensation for diminution in value ( the argument being that your car is worth less as a repaired vehicle than an original vehicle)
You get to choose. A much nicer chap crashed into the rear of my V12V in November when I was stationary. I had Aston Emergency Service pick up the car (it became undriveable shortly afterwards when a radiator pipe that had somehow been damaged in the impact came unattached). It took three weeks to get the car back, thanks to the other chap's useless insurers who took forever to authorise the repairs and a delay in getting the new rear splitter and bumper, as there was apparently a shortage, due to V12VS production.
I spent the three weeks in an R8 Spyder paid for by his insurers. If they'd authorised the repairs quicker, they'd have saved themselves a lot of money.
In short, don't worry, you can get your car repaired by the right people.

Well...so far it looks okay. Spoke to Admiral who were I have to say very helpful. Gave me option of no fault claim (and no excess payment) against other party but would need to get repair done by one of their authorised dealers. Said I wanted to choose plus highlighted issue of PPF. Admiral chap said no problem I could use who I wanted to but it would mean that I had to pay the excess and then reclaim it via the legal protection policy. Don't really see that as a problem to get repair done at garage I choose. Plus it looks like I'll get a similar loan car while repair takes place. Probably be next week now before sort out details but looks like Aston Workshop or Aston Works at Beamish. Thanks again for the helpful comments.

My insurance company said the same thing for my "prang" so I was going to go through them but when I was contacted by the third party's insurer and said I wanted the work done at Works Service they said "fine". The only downside was they wouldn't supply a loan car. So I told my insurers to forget it and dealt directly with the third party's - no excess payment, no reclaim required. So I guess it would be worth speaking with the third party's insurers before claiming via your policy as Admiral could be talking cobblers.

How does one work out what to claim as diminution in value?Bincenzo said:
JP, that's just rotten mate, absolutely gutted for you. That said, no one is hurt and the damage is mendable, it's just the nause of getting it sorted. If you need any bombs dropping, let me know. In the meantime, keep smiling. Insist that all is done to your entire satisfaction, regardless of where that may be. And have all evidence handy at all times. Hope it works out as you want it to, just reading about it has made me angry!
Cheers mate. Always good to know you have the RN to back you up in negotiations. May give me the excuse I've been looking for to get down your way albeit not in the circumstances I'd been hoping for!lime1 said:

How does one work out what to claim as diminution in value?I'm with admiral too and will be interested to see how things pan out. They sound half reasonable at the moment which is good to see. Car insurance premiums are also dropping like mad at the moment so renewal time will be interesting. I found the multi car policies to be a con so I I sure all ours independently.
Thought I'd update you all on the state of play. My insurers (Admiral) agreed to me choosing the garage for repair subject to getting quotes but said if I didn't use one of their approved repairers I'd have to pay my excess and reclaim from TP. In the meantime the TP insurers accepted liability (hard not to!). So I got a quote from Aston Martin Works in NP for the job to replace and repaint wing which did stun me rather. It also caused Admiral to try and get me to go down a different route with an alternative repairer. I stuck to my guns and Admiral decided they needed to get a claims assessor to check the car. This has now been done and the repair at last authorised. So now just looking at the logistics of getting the car down to AM Works. I still have some issues to deal with. The plan has been for the car to go to PaintShield for detailing and PPF re-application after the repair. Admiral have agreed to the cost of re-applying PPF. I still need to clarify agreement on transferring the car to PaintShield and also to the detailing cost (I argued that it was detailed originally just prior to the PPF application and that I am only arranging to have it restored to original condition pre-accident). One concern I have is that as I am over 200 miles from AM Works how do I ensure that the standard of repair and in particular the paint job / colour match is satisfactory before getting the detail and PPF done? I don't have time to just pop down and back to check. One of the hassles of choosing a repairer on recommendation of you lot rather than location!

Firstly, get works to pick up your car with their enclosed trailer. They will charge you a small amount but you can negotiate and it is well worth it. With regards to the paint, they did the bonnet of my v12v in storm black under warranty. It is not 100% faultless. I am very fussy and they left a couple of tiny flat spots which they refused to rectify afterwards. So keep a very close eye on the job done.Jon1967x said:

I have made a successful claim for diminution for a 3 month old Merc CLK320 which required a new door and front wing, I was paid £1200
As people have said, a new wing doesn't make a car worth any less (providing it's done properly), no more than a refurbished scuffed alloy would.
I would only start getting concerned if a car had had mechanical work due to a serious accident, cosmetic wouldn't bother me at all, and lets be honest, if it's done properly then really nobody would ever know.
When it comes to what is really light cosmetic damage (I appreciate it might not feel that way), there would be no need at all to tell a perspective buyer about it. If you were selling your house would you fess up and say the boiler had a minor repair last month ?

Maybe not in your neck of the woods, but here in the USA, even the slightest damage/repair will affect the value of the car by a significant amount even if the car is brought up to full new factory specification by an authorized Aston Martin repair facility. Any time there is an incident involving a police report or an insurance claim, it generates an entry with a private service called CarFax. Any record of an incident is promptly used by the dealer to devalue your car by 30% or more. In fact, many Aston Martin dealers cannot sell a car if they have a negative Carfax report so they will lowball you on the price and then sell off the car at auction.
An incident involving the replacement of a wing and repainting the vehicle would certainly qualify for the value being much less here in the US.
