Washed mine yesterday after 2 weeks of inclement weather and found - Rat poop on my intake! Setting traps today. I've known of a rat in the garage for a bit but have been hoping the dogs had scared it away.

My wife's SLK was left on the drive for the Christmas period. A week later she came to drive it and it sounded like a bag of nails. Engine management light on and engine vibrating like mad. It sounded like it was firing on 3 cylinders and it turned out I was right. Mouse had made a next under the engine cover and chewed through the casing of one of the injector leads. A common problem if you live in the countryside apparently as more modern cable coverings see irresistible to rodents.

This is a good (sad) example of how much damage mice can cause during winter storage. Living in upstate New York, where I store my summer cars over the winter, I purchased car bags that completely seal my cars (Vantage, Porsche, Jag E-Type) during the winter months. The bags typically come with desiccant containers that are placed inside to absorb any moisture remaining after the bag is zippered shut. I have used them for over 20 years without a single mouse problem.
