V12V to Macca before V12VSM?
Discussion
Well, I’m quite close now to going for the 650s spider. Indeed future values are a worry, but I’m hoping some winter/Brexit concerns are built in. At some point I’ve got to scratch that mid-engine super car itch.Throw in a hardtop convertible that I’ve never had and I’m almost there. And anyone with a petrolhead heart cannot possibly ignore the F1-derived tech and just the stupendous performance of this thing

A pal had a 650s spider for 2/3 years and has recently chopped it in for a 720s.
Having been out with him in it the 650s was insanely good at going to warp speed, without much drama. It handled like it was on rails, bonkers good at holding its line with endless grip. Downside was that it was almost too good so it felt more like playing grand turismo. Brilliant car, very digital, chalk and cheese against the aston imo.

Indeed, but after years of feathering the throttle on the V12V to avoid that brake-clattering DSC, on my short test drives it was a pleasure to be able use the full thing. And progressively too. If I gave it 50% - I got 50%. And unlike in the Aston past 50% I got even more explosive speed. BTW, In sport mode there was plenty of tail action on the Mclaren as well, but it generally put down that power really well.
I’m sure at some point I’ll want to change back - I see this as an interesting diversion for the moment. Hope I don’t lose my shirt.

Looks excellent, bloody superb in fact and I can understand that urge to have one and I much prefer the interior of a 12c/650 too. I would hope to aspire to one in future but may sway towards a V12 Vantage (from my V8V) as another itch to scratch and I could scratch it sooner. The after care would be a concern for me as AML have been superb in dealing with my exceptional issues whereas McLaren I doubt would be so accommodating. Good luck and keep us posted with your experience. I’m sure at some point I’ll want to change back - I see this as an interesting diversion for the moment. Hope I don’t lose my shirt.

Lovely looking car. I’d be certainly more inclined to go down a mclaren route than either Ferrari or lambo. Porsche (happy with my daily driver) are too clinical for a supercar for me, not to mention overpriced and have become somewhat arrogant with their customer base. That said my biggest concern or trying this marque is running costs and depreciation, heard a few too many horror stories....
Thanks for the positive comments, folks. Indeed very relevant comment about the service. After my last V12V service noticed a blemish in the front splitter CF finish, which the dealer will rectify at no cost. It’s not just the service I’d miss, but this forum too. I think I’ll probably continue to post as if I still had the V12V waiting for me in the garage...

Congratulations - that’s a great choice, you won’t be disappointed.
I’d be optimistic about McLaren service - my experience with them has been excellent.
I see the OP is based in Cheshire, if my experience with Manchester McLaren is anything to go by, he will be well looked after. I think the reported after-sales service issues are limited to a few over-busy Southern dealerships. Manchester, Glasgow, and the new Leeds dealer all have pretty solid reputations.
