RE: Aston launches Vantage Roadster

I personally love the way that some of these companies are sticking to fabric roofs and not going for the folding hard tops. Although the hard tops work well, I just think that they're a bit too 'clinical' as they detract from the simple soft top style.
Actually market research has showed that rich people prefer the fabric roof as then people can actually tell they have the more expensive and show offy convertible version.
The official AM Homepage doesn't mention anything about tweaking' the engine. In fact the performance figures are similar to the ones of the coupe.

Looks cracking with the roof down... but I've never been a big fan of soft tops they always look like pac-a-mac hoods on kagools, ill fitting and a bit too angular along the fold lines for me. Can't say its gonna cause me any major irritation though as its a bit out of my price range!
Is 18 seconds quick for a retractable hood? I've never owned or driven a car with an automatic hood so wouldn't have a clue but in the text it states ....in 'just' 18 seconds, drawing attention to the speed.

How about having a folding hard top with cloth in a different colour so that everyone knows it a convertable, or like the late Audi TT when they pained it black over the top to differentiate it from the rest of the pack.
Also 2nd thought, what with the Ferrari 355 Spyder on the classifieds, perhaps the AM will take over as the best looking convertable of recent times, which is many peoples view was the Ferrari 355 Spyder.
I remember my godfather buying a AM Volante in the early 90's when they came out, all the hype and he sold it immediately, loosing £30k because there was a recession on apparently. Which is why I fear this new car may bring on another recession! ;-) !!

What on Earth is AML doing with its naming convention? This car should be called the V8 Volante. The coupe should be (and is as far as I'm concerned) called the V8. Only a faster derivative should be called the Vantage. What are they going to call a faster V8 Vantage now? An Aston Martin V8 Vantage Vantage?

IIRC Volante's can only be 2+2's. 2 seaters are roadsters.
