I think you could describe jus's comment as individual and unrepresentative.

You have a problem my friend, because unless you like having new cars (and there are a lot of advantages) this is the worst time to buy a new high performance vehicle at list price at least since the fall of Rome. And though as I said it will get better, it is going to get a hell of a lot worse first. Hence my advice that you have GOT to use your considerable negotiating power. If you've got the balls to take on the terrorists you've got the balls for this, I'm sure.

Have a look at some of the other threads on the site (for example bcnrlm's on Porsche's anti congestion charge battle in P&P or Gen Gassing, one or the other) and you will see how seriously desperate things really are for those trying to sell new premium products. I doubt this will happen again in our lifetime, so what do you have to lose by trying your luck and taking the piss a bit? Before long the manufacturers will be cutting back on supply or stockpiling or doing something else to mitigate the situation, and this may hold up the values of the very latest ones down the line, but the horse has already pretty well bolted for the present. Plus, I am sure that you will find quite a few new Porsches and Astons for sale which through no fault of their own are not actually the new model, and if you are interested the deals on these should be eye wateringly good.

In some ways I agree with cardigankid. Now is a very good time to strike a deal.

However, a "properly" spec'd V8 is going to cost you 81k+VAT. If you negotiate hard at the moment, I reckon you *might* get a dealer spec'd car (as noted, these will be a decent spec that you would likely order anyway. Unless you're Elton John, Jordan, or play for West Brom) for around 71k-73k+VAT. But you will have to work hard and find a dealer that has a few cars on the forecourt (now's a double good time as not only are the market's ste, but the new model year is due so they'll be keen to shift any stock they have).

Regardless of all of this, and throwing my attempts at objectivity out of the window, just buy a Vantage smile Any one you feel you can afford and stop fretting about residuals. You will love the car, and it will give a lot of pleasure. It won't lose dramatically more than a base spec 997 (IMO) but will likely give a lot more smiles. And everyone you meet will love it.

PS Jus - 0GBP is the only bottom of the depreciation curve that really is the bottom biggrin I think some people have been bid in the bks by dealers for cars already. And selling cars like this at 40k+ (in the UK at least) can be more hassle than it's worth.

I totally agree that you shouldn't fret about residuals. That's life. I just want you to get the best car for your money you can.

To see what I mean, check out the thread 'Will October be the best month to buy...' on the Porsche section. This will show you how things look. Personally I would expect the main dealers / manufacturers to react as follows:-

1. With specialist cars there are always people with an eye on the forecourt, so even a small reduction can trigger a sale. So repeated small reductions rather than big ones.
2. If they are part of a group, cycle their stock round their sites, or even hide it.
3. Find other ways of generating revenue, like the Porsche warranties.
4. Put off new product launches
5. Sell small limited edition runs that cost nothing to do.(XK60 & Porsche Sport Design Editions)
6. Cut back production as far as possible while staying solvent.

Even with all that, there is a huge supply of vehicles just now, so you really should be able to get a stunningly good deal on the car you want if you tough it out. Just my non professional opinion, and what I'd do if I had £55k and VAT immunity.

And here's another one to check out, the thread on 'Aston to support dealers', the suggestion being that AM will chip in up to £10k on a trade in to help you buy a new Vantage. It for good customers they say, but if you have £55k in your pocket you are a good customer, by definition.

If I was in this position I would worry that a new Porsche is going to shed 20k very quickly, as could a 55k Aston - which it is easy to imagine being bid down to low 40's pretty soon.

What is needed is a car which has come down a bit, but where supply is still a bit tight, which may support residuals over the next couple of years while the Aston and Porsche are likely to fall.

For this reason - I would look at an Audi R8.

They are dipping into the 60's now, but they are much less common than 911's as well as being a current model unlike the Aston 4.3.

Now THAT'S funny.

The current R8 will be current for not much longer. Soon as Audi sorts out shoehorning everything from V6 to diesel V12 in it that is.

And even though still current, aren't you saying it's already dropped 20k?

No such thing as a risk free trade these days. Buy with your heart as at least you'll resent it less WHEN you lose money on it.

My God!
That is stunning!
If only someone would give me £40K for my RR Sport now, I'd be on my way to London to buy that rather than being online!!

I think the the current climate, need to do as suggested and buy with the heart. I did it before with my T350 and never regretted it. I mean you've got to be a little funny in the head buy a TVR...!

You think I'll get a decent part-ex on the Sport for that Aston?!!!?!?

That car has been for sale for at least a month now. Started out at a very unrealistic £65k or was it even £68k? Great provenance and stunning in white but the Bitter Chocolate interior lets it down badly. Apparently Ulrich Bez specs all his cars with this combination!

Does show car mean press car? Just for clarification.
