No I can assure you I am most certainly not getting offended, I am merely commenting (as is a forums way) on your post. You came here looking for sympathy and I am giving you an alternative viewpoint which is the joy of a forum (especially this one) smile

I stand by my point. I find it risible that one can get offended merely by being asked a question. Sticks and stones and all that jazz.

So you don't think our society is weak, selfish to the core and lost in any meanigfull sense of direction then? Perhaps we need another ten years of Nue Liebour to help change your mind ROFL

The OP simply posted a fair and reasonable post asking for other people's input, rather than sympathy. Obviously given from the stories posted most people reading this could relate it to a personal experience of some kind.

This has obviously struck a nerve with you for some strange reason Soul Reaver, so offering my own alternative viewpoint; My guess is that you were the spotty kid at school who got bullied?

Im 45 and a bit rough looking - I turned up to test a Aston in my CLS55 and was very well treated however I was asked if I would pass a credit enquiry which has never happened before, I was not offended in any way and said I hope so. Apparently a high % of potential buyers fail miserably and (I would guess) are aware of this so why waste the dealers time.

Op I wouldnt let it bother you life is too short to write letters and feel aggrieved, at the end of the day a hassle free and less stress life is what we all desire

My dealer was telling me that a local millionaire who has bought many an Aston went in to buy one for his son and got turned down on the finance. His opinion was that you never can tell... sometimes the scruffiest bloke will walk in off the street and buy outright for cash (so no point pre-judging).

I think some dealers do pre-judge, my brother and I visted a cheltenham dealer they took our details showed us some cars and said they would be in touch for a test drive - they never called. We were not smartley dressed, but keen to buy from a dealer close to us, in the end my brother got his from cardiff and I from Welwyn garden city - with excellent service.

This sort of stuff goes on all the time. I thought about buying a V8 M3 from new. I turned up to the BMW dealer in my 997 C2S and had a look round. Asked for a test drive of an older model M3 to see if I liked that. Heard some nonsense about cannot do it, moving cars around the car park and something about finance. I said, "I paid cash for that" - pointed to 997 and walked out.

Vote with your feet!

And no, it does not offend me, I just don't like wasting my time. If I turn up at a car dealer with >£50,000 to spend I do expect to be treated nicely. Nothing to do with sensitivity, but simple old fashioned courtesy.

Contrast with my experience at Aston Martin Cambridge where I phoned up and asked to view a specific car. I had to be out of there very early due to a prior commitment. The dealer principal offered to open the garage specially early for me. He also had to leave early for his Sales Managers wedding. By the time I'd got the V8 to the BP garage I was a buyer (that's about 300 yards away)....

For sure, qualify your leads by all means, avoid test pilots and the like, but do it with style, grace and treat your customers and potential customers with dignity, courtesy and respect.

Rant over!!

i am a VERY scruffy ,heavily accented scouser and quite a young looking 34.i first ventured into stratstone wilmslow when i was 25 and didn`t suffer any maltreatment from the sales guys.it became a bit of a running joke when i kept trying to chop in tvr`s for db7`s but it was all good humoured. i finally sold my last tiv, bought a db7 privately, let them service it and within a year was in a new v8v.the guys over at service are fantastic and i never feel like i`m getting stiffed.quite the oposite infact, they always warn me when a stinger is coming up and on a couple of occasions i have asked for something and been advised it was unnecessary(tracking for instance).

i nearly contemplated going over to the dark side and getting into a gallardo.lambo stockport were quite friendly and helpful without being intrusive or dissmissive.i am,however staying put with aston for the forseable future!!!

overall i think i must just be one charming bd!
