I was also thinking about a golf R to replace the 4x4 but as someone says the driving position in a range rover/ 4x4 is so good it's hard to go back to a conventional car.
I kept the R32 Golf for a while but soon became bored....you could always try my route with an ML63

You don't.

What goes with an Aston? Pineapple, of course....

Whilst viewing the Rapide my daughter went exploring with a slice of pineapple in her hand. Try as hard as we might we could find no sign of it afterwards. So, lodged inside the demo Rapide may well be a slice of pineapple in whatever state of decay....

very cute, but as a Dad you need to teach her that with a car with that amount of power, she should have BOTH hands on the wheel!

DB7 Vantage - does about 4k pa these days. I will have had it 8 years next week and I like it alot. It will go some time soon though.

89 Vantage Volante - High days and holidays, I view it as part of my pension that I can drive around in. It is almost too perfect.

Porsche Boxster S - Not sure about it at all. It's my other half's car and when I drive it I enjoy the sensation, but it's got a whiff of the salon about it (and, say it quietly, it's not as reliable as I'd like)

Audi A4 3.0 TDI Avant(Yes a four wheel drive, diesel state). A brilliant car - 38mpg over 16k miles in all weathers and on all roads. 0-60 in around 7 secs and more torque than my old Ferrari 550. And it's only had 1 service in four years (it's a variable service schdule) and the dogs can get in the back and sleep peacefully.

More interestingly, what would one like?
- 246 Dino GTS
- BMW Z4 / or maybe a new Vantage Roadster
- A4 3.0TDI Avant

(And I also earned it all myself- except the Boxster which my other half bought herself from her income)

i`m glad to see that the smart has gone fella, the mother in law has one and i find it a rather hateful rollerskate!!

in answer to the original question my daily is a v8v(07)which i am proud to say i have put 30000 miles on!,our baby bus is a bmw x5 and i honestly found it head and shoulders above both the q7(test driven, but not for too long)and the range rover vogue(had one for the weekend).the perfect all rounder to replace your lexus.if the boxster is going why not try something a little more raw for sunday mornings over the b roads?despite my soured relationship at the end of my tvr ownership experience back in the early days i had a chim 400.dead easy to drive and a joy to push hard.not an expensive proposition at the moment and cheap as chips to run

The wife and kids had an E60 M5 for a while, but the fuel bills were getting out of hand, so now they have a 335D Touring, fully opted and mapped up....I love it...but not as much as the Aston.... Have my eyes on the new S4 Wagon...think they are very smart...but not sure if I can handle Audi un-reliability again.

I personally don't get all this advice about 4x4s being the perfect partner to an AM. Even the best drive like a bucket of **** compared with a decent car, with little or any advantage. Don't mention snow as a set of winter tyres will solve that issue.
As for me I have a diesel Golf soon to be replaced by a Jaguar XF to keep the Vanatage company.

I have a TVR Cerbera to go with my DB7 VV. The cerb supplies the shot of adrenaline and lunacy that sometimes i just must have. Also have a couple of big twin Harleys for the sunshine.

The other half has a Scoobie Legacy 2.0D - thats a cracking car for sprogs, dogs and bikes... My daily drive is a clinically conceived and dull as anything X5 3.0SD. For those days when I don't want to look like an ostentatious prat in the V8V or the X5 I get out the 1964 Volvo P1800S..... Cooler than a polar bears jacksie!!

Thanks all.Sounds like a solution will involve a 4x4 but the reason I got the Lexus was because it is much lighter than a Range Rover ,the X5 I tried had a dreadful ride on the run flats ,and the Toyota engine revs and goes when you thrash it ( would not be surprised if it is related to the Evora engine - does anybody know ?).New Lexus is a heavy hybrid - efficient but too big and heavy.

ML63 sounds fun but petrol consumption just seems profligate. I like the torque of a diesel and it's efficiency but I hate the fact you can't rev them .Is the 335d or Audi 3.0d thrashable as well as economical ?

TVR an interesting thought for the boxster although getting rid of the old faithful will feel like shooting the family labrador - years of faithful service ( Le Mans etc )and still eager to please !

Just wondering what other cars people run with their Astons?

I am thinking of updating my fleet but keeping my DB9 convertible manual and I am curious what other cars people drive ?

I'll kick off. I have a Lexus RX300 for when I am not in the mood for driving, need to shift stuff or people in comfort, a boxster for when I am really in the mood for back road driving ,and the wife has a clk convertible for when four people need to pose in the sun in comfort.

All these cars are getting a bit long in the tooth so ideas are welcome for replacements that do the same jobs.

Audi Q5 3.0D (arriving 1st March) and for the warmer days a Honda VFR. Doris has a 120d Convertable. Have been driving a 325 coupe though. My ideal would be to chop in the Vantage for a DBS and also add a 458 Italia but no chance on that....
