DB4 Zagato looks the best - I assume prices are off the scale - does anybody know if somebody produces a replica ?

You'll be wanting the Aston DBSZ then smile made in Australia and based on a DBS as the doner car.

I think WAM do a replica DB4GT Zagato, along with their replica DB3S.

All the same I don't think that I would F up a perfectly good DBS 6 or DB4 to produce an ersatz Zagato. I recently saw pictures of, I think, a DB4 Series 4 Vantage, currently for sale, which had the shorter chassis of the DB4GT, faired in headlights, but the civilisation of the sports saloon, in some variation on Aston racing green. It looked superb. For me, that is the best looking Aston of all time. Some might say, DB5C or DB6 Volante, but they are just a little bit lacking in, shall we say, masculinity.

Murph - don't understand your comment about the looks of the DB5. Why did later DB5's look worse than early ones? I thought all DB5's looked pretty much the same.

Didn't the very rear and the very front evolve over its life?

Not 100% sure though - the DB4 through to the DB6 seems to be one big evolution (no surprise there!)...I just find myself attracted to the earlier cars looks-wise.

I was initially struggling to see how they'd done that on a VH DBS smile *That* would be a proposition though!

As above, would rather people didn't butcher other classic models - williamp's DBS was a beautiful thing.

In relation to the DB4 Zagoto I believe that there were 16 original cars. In relation to replicas; although they were not replicas in the true sense of the description I believe four were manufactured by a specialist company. The four of whioch I speak were I believe authorised by AM and may have been chassis continuations. The prices for the latter four were very significant, and as for the original 16 well you can just imagine.

I believe there were 19 original cars in 1961. In 1991 4 official "Sanction II" cars were made and Richard Williams got permission from AM to produce a further 2 "Sanction III" cars in 2000.

Sheer perfection, a mere £265,000 to you sorr from Byron Motors (Mad, Bad, and Dangerous to know?)

"Enthusiasts of the Aston Martin marque recognise that, aside from the DB4GT, the DB4 Series lV Vantage is the best DB4 to own. First of all it's rare, only 45 were built, 31 R.H.D. and 14 L.H.D. It is fitted with an SS (Special Series) engine with triple instead of twin carburettors. The series IV is the only one of the five different series of DB4 to be fitted with the same dashboard as a DB4GT, similarly it shares cowled headlamps. It is also just over three and a half inches shorter than the DB4 Series V. Rarity, power, appointment and shape all point to a thoroughbred."
