Maybe on the course they'll mention that when the lights turn to amber you're supposed to stop if safe to do so. Then you wouldn't be in this predicament.

Highway code says;

"AMBER means ‘Stop’ at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident"

Sorry, but I've seen a few nasty accidents where people try to beat the lights and t-bone a car that's on green. Take it on the chin and learn from it.

Looks like you'll be driving a Nissan Micra for a few years, until you learn to drive responsibly.

Give the guy the a break lads. I am sure is aware as the rest of us of the law and the highway code and the last thing he needs at this point is you giving him a lesson on how to drive.

I am sure we have all done something by accident, speed, go thro a red light, bad parking etc etc

Indeed, let the man who has never broken any rule of the Highway Code cast the first stone...

It's easy to do. There are some stupid lights around my way that are really confusing until you've got use to them - for example two sets so close to each other you'd think they were on the same sequence. If a lorry's next to you you can only see the far set, which go green before the near set. Also a pelican crossing right on a bend by a roundabout. If they're already on amber when you see them, you either go through on red, or slam the brakes on and get rear-ended by a car coming off the roundabout. And in both cases run over a pedestrian if they "jump" the lights!

So yea, give the OP some slack guys!
