New DB9 testing pics...
Discussion
Personally I think this thread has run it's course, for the time being at least, that is unless you have any more pics, spec or juicy info to keep these guys interested . Tim you should know by now how things can spin off here, you've made many contributions as can be seen by all but this lot requires focus and unfortunately the focus at the moment is banter, it's like being back at school but it's all good fun. As for the guy with the kitted up bentley, well I've read the posts he's involved in and to be quite honest given his attitude and lack of humility and sense of humour he needs to wind his neck in a bit and give his head a shake, I don't know him personally he >may< be a nice bloke but he's not making a good impression here, but rest assured I'll be making a point of looking out for his car as he's local-ish and I spend a lot of time driving around his neck of the woods, we need to feed him to Mr Gould

A bit of thread creep here. I have been asked if I would like to attend a preview at Gaydon of Project 310 on 23 May... Should be interesting!
Interesting - actually at the factory or local dealer? If it's ready to show on the 23rd, surely we can get a sneak preview on Friday..?Reluctant to bring a cheque book with me. I obviously can't afford such a thing, but sadly that's never stopped me before
My money is on Vanquish, Virage and Vantage as the range, losing the DB moniker. Rapide to be re-engineered slightly to look more like a 4 car door and ess like a widescreen DB9 (think Maser QP) and hopefully branded Lagonda.
The current naming convention then also allows for Vanquish S and Virage S as well. Problem for me is how to differentiate the name of the old Vanquish and the 310..? Vanquish II? Vanquish MkII? Vanquish B?

Really excited with the prospect of the Vanquish returning. Though it seems odd to only have used the DBS name for one generation, it has a ring to it. Maybe they're saving it for a sportier version of the new DB11?
I think the DBS name was always a mistake, should have been the 'DB9S'. Really excited with the prospect of the Vanquish returning. Though it seems odd to only have used the DBS name for one generation, it has a ring to it. Maybe they're saving it for a sportier version of the new DB11?
I guess the Virage S would be the new DBS equivalent? How far above that will the Vanquish sit though? And could it be Zagato priced..? If 'hand finished' like the old car, the sky is the limit.
I don't see how they can get away with using the Vanquish name on this bearing in mind how iconic and recent that car was and as has been stated many times by me & others, I thought it was fairly well documented that the DB monikers are nto going to be used going forward
So I don't see them using vanquish or DBS. BTW, of course DBS was used on a previous car that had a shorter life I think than this modern DBS
As has also been stated before, 310 would appear to be the new DBS but is also a vehicle which AM are likely to refer to, officially or unofficially, as a vanquish successor - IMO the DBS has never really been viewed as that despite being the top of the range AM for a while (obviously ONE 77 aside). Apart from anything else, I think they know that to be a true top of the range/vanquish successor, it needs to be considerably faster & more sporty than the V12V as it's going to be presumably so much more expensive
Surely 310 has to be the most likely one to be the centenary car ?
I've been invited to a preview on May 28th - I assume it's of this though I haven't actually been told as such yet

also agree that regardless of name, it makes sense for there to be an S version of the base GT that sits below project 310. But in line with vantage pricing and if they really do try to put meaningful list prices on the car rather than loony figures that then get steep discounts, my guess is project 310 at 200-225k, base GT at 120-140k, S version of base GT at 150-160k
production capacity in the ONE 77 / Zag facility are surely too low for project 310

I agree with that, bizarre as it sounds, the top of the range Aston (DBS) at 160k was >gulp< too cheap! Not including the limited models. When a 458 Spider is a quarter of a million pounds and god only knows what the F720 will be; but they sell, always wealthy people out there who want the next new thing!
It'll need 550bhp just for pub bragging right though...

I don't know how and I accept there are lots on here with better technical understanding of these things that may scoff at the practicalities, but I therefore don't see how it will get away with less than 600 bhp. Not at that price, bearing in mind what the competition do (F12 has over 700bhp). Also remember vanquish S had 520 bhp and it will be almost 10 yrs between that and when the new one comes out. Can they seriously get away with just 30bhp more than the vanquish S ?

The car will undoubtedly be a little lighter but I suspect not sufficiently lighter for increases in performance to come from anything other than out & out power

Is it REALLY REALLY all about power. I bought my car because it is stunningly beautiful and more than quick enough for our lovely congested roads, oh and my ability. I'm sure in a sprint to Yeti's favourite Bingo Hall 510bhp would be sufficient. Am I missing something here. All IMHO of course I don't know how and I accept there are lots on here with better technical understanding of these things that may scoff at the practicalities, but I therefore don't see how it will get away with less than 600 bhp. Or do you think AM can launch a new car that sits at the top of their range with a price tag to match that doesn't improve on the performance of it's 10 yr old predecessor ?
