I thought the stock reply was 'Your brake pads need replacing'. This seems to happen even when I've recently had them done.

It's because mice ate through the wiring, so the harnesses have to be replaced. Dropping the whole drivetrain is the best way to replace all the wiring and to inspect for further damage.

Serious question though, hopefully insurance will pay for the damage, but would that be house/contents insurance or does the vehicle policy cover such disasters?

I saw a v12 like this in Cambridge Am, the windscreen wiper motor had failed, and dropping the subframe is how they get to the wiper motor in the v12. :wow:

Luckily I understood the am warranty was pickng that one up!

I haven't got a clue what you're on about!
"Mice1 - Vantage 0" ???
What is that supposed to mean?
This is a Rapide BTW, you know, the one with four doors! smile
Has it been attacked by mice and being dismantled?
Still, clearly not a Vantage! You should know, you have one or is it a Rapide you have and you think you own a Vantage!?

This post freaked me out so much I went in my garage looking under my car for signs of mice poo but couldn't find any.
I then put some mice poison bags under my car just in case!
I do spray some rodent repeller in the engine bay before winter storage (the LIQUY MOLLY stuff).

Washed mine yesterday after 2 weeks of inclement weather and found - Rat poop on my intake! Setting traps today. I've known of a rat in the garage for a bit but have been hoping the dogs had scared it away.

My wife's SLK was left on the drive for the Christmas period. A week later she came to drive it and it sounded like a bag of nails. Engine management light on and engine vibrating like mad. It sounded like it was firing on 3 cylinders and it turned out I was right. Mouse had made a next under the engine cover and chewed through the casing of one of the injector leads. A common problem if you live in the countryside apparently as more modern cable coverings see irresistible to rodents.

This is a good (sad) example of how much damage mice can cause during winter storage. Living in upstate New York, where I store my summer cars over the winter, I purchased car bags that completely seal my cars (Vantage, Porsche, Jag E-Type) during the winter months. The bags typically come with desiccant containers that are placed inside to absorb any moisture remaining after the bag is zippered shut. I have used them for over 20 years without a single mouse problem.
