Actually - if we all took off our heavily tinted AML glasses off I think he has a number of valid points.
Two of us that actualy own the same car have already agreed he does make some valid points. However his complete lack of research and poor attitude do a great job of undermining them

Jeez you guys need to take a chill pill. cnet is a technology site, they review the car " infotainment technology"(stereo, sat nav, integration etc.)as their main focus, which btw sucks on the Astons. Just look at all their other reviews, all of it is on car technology and it's interface, the driving dynamics barely ever mentioned. The gent on the video is a "technology" editor with very little driver training.

Why drive it then?Just seemed an excuse for a frothing, hate-filled rant really

Maybe an Aston Martin touched him as a child...

As a technology editor he must be well used to reviewing over priced pointless gadgets that don't work properly

I rented a Ford in the States last week that had better infotainment and driver interface than any Aston 5 times the price
My Land Rover was way better over rocks, mud and through fields and rivers than my DB9. If someone posts a clip on youtube frothingly ranting about that, I would equally give him no credence at all. If you select a car based on its infotainment system (not even sure what that is), then perhaps Aston shouldn't be your top choice. How good is the one in your DB4?

No Yeti i don't choose a car on the basis of its infotainment system but if I'm in the market to buy a top of the range car i expect that the infotainment system is at least up to date and not from the steam age of automotive engineering. Aston should just walk down the road to Land Rover and acquire the rights to use their system and everybody would be happy. And since you ask, my stereo in my DB4 was i guess at that time quite typical of what you would get in 1961 - and guess what, the radio reception is way better in the DB4 than in my V12V.
That "walk" will never happenJLR & Tata have spent millions developing there technology to help them compete, they have also "fallen out" with AM on engines before now.
I've no problems with the performance and function of the Premium "Infotainment" system in my S
In a Rapide or Coupe it may be more critical?
As an American living in England for the last 5 years - I agree with Franki. Americans, do tend to a larger extent, to be "paper" auto-enthusiasts - with a greater bias towards objective results and less towards the subjective driving EXPERIENCE.
In this case, note that the review is from a tech outfit - not an auto outfit. So his view was more like - who cares about the mechanicals and the driving experience - look at this crappy tech. Its the other way around from the way auto enthusiasts would view it.

Am I right in thinking the new Vanquish has a much more up to date infotainment system in, including touch screen technology, or was that just wishful thinking and speculation in an article? If so then we can expect it to filter down to the other model refreshes ( dare I say new models?) in the fullness of time.
I recently had a Chrysler 300 with touch screen, ipod integration and satellite radio and everything else you can think of that might conceivably be useful in a car. It was a good idea but badly let down by terrible sound quality (digital hiccup every 8 seconds). After a while I could bear it no more, turned the car stereo off and listened to my iPod through my Sennheiser headphones.
Sometimes you don't need a DVD player that plays VCD, DivX, Xvid, FFMpeg, MPEG4 adequately. What you want is one that plays DVDs exceptionally well.
And that's what the Aston does. It doesn't make toast, it is just a very good car indeed.

The same could be said of your own ego..... You seem a little over sensitive to a little bit of criticism of an Americans opinionNote to self: Use only gentle, encouraging words during posts on PH.

FWIW..... I'm a firm believer that the so called "special" relationship, is somthing politicians made up, to make themselves feel good about some of the actions they undertake...
And it's a little to one sided for my liking....

No, not a bit. I've simply highlighted your opinion as well as one other that hints at your true feelings towards Americans. I realize this site is predominantly Brits. Having travelled to your country a few times, I also know how Americans are generally considered. That is to say, not too positively. ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Nonetheless, I like spending time here because I like talking about AMs. Grinning and bearing your sentiment towards people like me is just part of the equation. Doesn't mean I won't occasionally point it out.

Luna, the above would suggest you're a closet (of which I am now clearly way out of) "Love Actually" fan And it's a little to one sided for my liking....
