Bums, Chris Harris much preferred the F-Type over the V8V. Shame, but you can't argue with some of the headline figures (yes, I know it's not all about that). Surprisingly, he'd take the Jag over a 911 too, which is going some considering he's something of a Porsche bloke.

Watch the video on Drive should you need more.

I do think this forum must be the worst display of ghastly pretension on here. Seems to be more focused on dreadfully telling new money self congratulation than any real enthusiasm, (accepting those may just be the comments that stand out). Shame really as have always loved Astons.

The F-Type is an awesome machine no doubt and has been built for mass production by a cash-rich company with colossal resources.

That a standard Vantage Roadster, based on 2005 tech (not as S tested sadly) can feature in the same review and not be disgraced dynamically is good. But it's replacement needs to be better than the F-Type, AML would be silly not use it as a benchmark.

I like them. Do I want one... No.

What on earth are you basing that on? Furthermore, I wouldn't consider myself to be the most intelligent man in the world, but I'm struggling to understand your second sentence.

Yeti, you're right about the review, I thought the AM held its own very well.

Pretentious...Moi.
And this from a guy that chooses "lear" as a moniker.
I learnt very early on when posting on PH to have a thick skin and a sense of humour.
"New money"...what's wrong with that ?
Worked very hard, all my life, to earn it.
"Self congratulation"....Best sort......"Know thyself" (to quote an ancient Greek aphorism).
"Shame really as have always loved Astons."..."hate the sin, love thesinner"
to quote my old mate Mahatma Gandhi.
woohoo

Lear is a good choice of moniker clap

King Lear. The title character descends into madness after disposing of his estate between two of his three daughters based on their flattery, bringing tragic consequences for all.

Very good vid and what sounds like an honest review. Unfortunately I now feel the urge to go outside and cain the DB9 down some country lanes. My mid-week productivity has taken a massive hit since buying the Aston!

I had the opportunity to take the F-Type V6S out for a blast a month ago. Cracking car, great fun and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The noise from the pipes…all that burbling cracking and popping was brilliant. Handling was fantastic.

The cabin is bang up to date, media centre, adjustable stuff, g-meter things and as gadget tastic as the latest datsuns.
However it’s no Aston, I don’t really see it as a vantage competitor….just yet. People with the money to go out and buy a brand new aston. Will buy a brand new aston. The jag is in a different price bracket. Prodding about, it shows. Sure there were things I disliked about the vantage, but the jag just has far too much plastic stuff in the cabin and outside. Even the carbon fibre bonnet vents (option) look cheap….well that’s because it is cheap compared to the Aston.

The auto box is good, but it’s still an auto. Manual/automated manual only please.
For me as a daily drive, the boot just isn’t up to the job in the jag.
I don’t like any of the wheels on offer with the jag.

Aston will not lose out on new sales. The issue will be a year later, when people can buy a much younger pre-owned f-type compared to a pre-owned vantage at the same price.

On that budget I would live without the gadgets and have the aston. Even though the Aston cockpit is aging it’s still a very special place to be.

Btw….I’ve just sold my vantage weeping(coming to a stratstones near you) and on the hunt for a Maserati GTS…just for a change.

Despite the jibes from some (most of whom have appear not to have driven it), it's a great drivers car. A standard V8 Vantage wouldn't see which way it went.

What I found lacking was the interior quality, no space in it (or the boot) and the high price.

As a proposition for occasional, sunny day, roof down fun, it would be brilliant.

I can see that. Why? I am a big Jaguar fan, have had 3 of them and will have another? confused

My comment was in the spirit of lear's post. i.e. nonsense.

You really have no clue about what is going on. Just stop will you?

I was just simply surprised by that.
Always read your message with interest and genuinely think you are really passionate about cars (even if with a strong bias for aston Martin and BR which is obviously not a problem particularly here).

I am seeing some comments coming up in various discussions regarding certain behaviours here and fully understand why and was not expecting this from you (honestly did not care your comemnt was vs a Jag).

It seems that certain discussions brings the worst side of some people out

and the high price.
I think this is the worst mistake they have done.
Base price from 58000 with no options is too much

I think its is a fantastic car....and I haven't driven it !! I'm on record as saying I would happily stick one on the drive next to the DB9. The vast majority of Aston owners have a healthy respect for Jaguar cars and their owners. Indeed, some are joint owners.

Which is where I start to get puzzled.

I don't know why there has been a recent spate of postings by Jaguar owners on the Aston forum in what appears to be an attempt to goad them confused The most recent one being a picture of an F Type and a Vanquish Volante which was bizarre. Aston owners obviously disagreed - even a heavy Jaguar fanboy cringed - so another disparaging post is put up by a Jaguar owner.

A quick look on the Jag forum tells me that this behaviour is not being reciprocated by Aston owners.

It's a shame really as these 2 great marques should be the best of friends, with a common (ish) history and shared identity. Here's to a happy future for both yes

I am equally passionate about Lotus, Morgan, Porsche, Maserati, Jaguar, Land Rover and classic Alfas to name but a few.

And bizarrely, Rover smile

It'd be weird if I posted that stuff on here, I am on other forums for those cars - PH just has a very good Aston section.

Which seems to be on the decline slightly recently frown

I came close to buying an XKRS well engineered car but my heart went for the Vantage
If I come out of AM I will look a jag again
