When you were little what did you aspire to owning one day: a Jag or an Aston?
Barbie or Cindy was the only choice for me.Ken just looked WAY too gay

I think it will be.
For example, it's already been compared to a 911.
Jaguar strongly deny it is aimed at the 911For example, it's already been compared to a 911.
They had 911's at their dealer launch in Portugal as part of their "drive the competition" section.
Interesting comparison here too.
I know I read they didn't want to compare it to the 911 (I guess encase the 911 won )
But this interview with Mike Cross suggests otherwise

Yeah, I read that too. Cross wants the F-Type to be a "credible alternative to a 911, but not the same as one." I know I read they didn't want to compare it to the 911 (I guess encase the 911 won )

And also the quote from their engineering manager, "We want to beat the 911, the Aston V8, the Audi R8, but at less cost."

High aspirations indeed. Good luck to them, but i dont think they will get near the dynamics of the 991 or the road presence of the Aston. The R8 has never appealed to me for some reason, and have never driven one so cant comment. And also the quote from their engineering manager, "We want to beat the 911, the Aston V8, the Audi R8, but at less cost."

Pretty much sums it up for me The R8 doesn't appeal because my name is not Smee and / or I'm not a nightclub bouncer (sincerest apologies for the immature stereotyping)

George.....I think you wrong.....the F Type is probably what the Vantage should be.......unless Aston up their game I think they could loose a chunk of customers
New car in beating 8 year old car shocker! You're forgetting the new Vantage due any time now. I do quite like the F Type, but it's too heavy, and has the wrong sort of gearbox (should be a double clutch automated manaul) imo. The looks are ok, it's the details that I don't like on them (i.e. the gaping holes at the front, and the fussy back). I'm looking forward to seeing one in the flesh though.
Well, I wasn't expecting this to turn into a Jaguar v Aston argument. Just wanted to give genuine petrol heads the opportunity to come to what should be a good do and hopefully appreciate the work which has gone into this car by another historic British brand.
If you like what you see, take one for a spin. If you don't, then you you can remain happy in your equally gorgeous Aston Martin. (Yes, I can admit to liking other brands too in fact, my father in law has a California Sage DB9 and it is lovely)
Not expecting to have to do a raft of Aston Martin appraisals on the evening!

FWIW I have seen more F Types on the road in the last couple of months than I have Astons of all models. Can I use the word "common"
Ahem these development cars They have to do a certain amount of testing on the public roads. I feel when customer cars are on the road, They shant be as common as the test cars you have seen.To be fair that Aston concept handle looks like a stuck on afterthought! At least the Jag one is well integrated into the overall design. Way OT but the Aston interior is one of the few that had an even bigger "wow" factor in production form than it did as a concept!
I will admit to having a soft spot for Jags having owned several older ones but nothing they've done since the XJS ( ) has really floated my boat. (I also very much like the R8, mind you!). I've yet to see anything more than a fleeting glance of the F-Type on the road (and a front-only view of it in a crate at Goodwood last year!) , but I think it could be pretty good. It's a shame it's only an auto but didn't I hear a rumour that a manual is in the pipeline? Aston are going down a similar route with gearboxes of course which is a shame.
If I was looking for a new car the F-type would definitely be on my test drive list, along with the Vantage, R8 and Boxster or 911.
