supply and demand.....smaller market means its worth less
However, there are companies who are able to take an undesirable product with low market appeal and, with some marketing trickery, turn it into a very expensive niche product.
Look at Rolex.
Take a bit of Indian steel, a bit of crappy Chinese plastic, a couple of used springs from a soiled mattress, get some guy with a Swiss sounding name to glue it together, stick 3 zeros on the price and market it to gaylords and Fifa Gaymers in Lancashire.

In these tough credit crunched times even Astons - usually loved by most - can get a few resentful glares, so why you would want a rather flash bright orange "look at me I'm rich colour" at the moment I don't know, not a time for conspicuous consumption IMO - but then again each to their own.
Maybe people are also looking for signs that the recession will not last forever?Jockman said:
Ordinarily Mr G your prognosis is sound.

Only watch I've ever bought is an Omega Planet Ocean However, there are companies who are able to take an undesirable product with low market appeal and, with some marketing trickery, turn it into a very expensive niche product.

I inherited a Rolex, but it's made of gold instead of Indian steel. So there

Hi Grant. Perhaps people just buy the colour they like? The day I start speccing my cars based on what other people think you have my permission to shoot me. If I'm spending £££££££s on the car of my dreams then I'm sure as hell going to have it how I want it. I'm NOT going to aplogise for having a beautiful car. If other people don't like it - tough. That doesn't mean I'm not sympathetic to or unaware of the struggle some are having though. Pugsey said:

Well said that man!Shmee said:
That's easy, 1:43, I have models that size of the 5 cars I've owned in the UK, a One-77 would fit in nicely!
I do that too, but in 1/18th Have a model of the SL, DB9 and ML, couldn't find any of the others, since they're just mediocre hatchbacks. Do you get colours so they match the car too?

My first was but it all went pear shaped from there.Have a model of the SL, DB9 and ML, couldn't find any of the others, since they're just mediocre hatchbacks. Do you get colours so they match the car too?
I had a white BMW and they made the model in every colour but that, then I bought a custom coloured Audi so that was a no-no. They don't even make a 1:43 V8V Roadster let alone a glacial blue one so I've got a coupe in silver... My Mini is in the right colour though!
I have considered painting them though...

I thought they might be. Although any man wearing trousers and grilling his food was probably equally likely to get some vitriol The steel used is Swedish and is higher than surgical grade... The movements are manufactured entirely in-house since 2000... They invented the waterproof watch, the first automatically changing date (and day-date), the first watch with a second timezone and were the first to have a wristwatch certified as a chonometer. In short, they are peerless as a manufacture of timepieces and as a brand.
I am not silly enough to claim they make the best timepieces in the world, that is entirely subjective but they'll always be something special. Like Aston Martin.
Yep. I'll bite every time
Got a models from Renualt (ClioV6 Mk1) and Porsche (Boxster & GT3) when I bought cars from them as part of their pre launch build up. Didn't seem a big deal at the time but fun to have them in my office - now the real cars have long gone.
Have had a model GT40 on my desk for many years - which is probably as near as I'll ever get to owning one!
