I feel a bit sorry for them - they addressed the 'they all look the same' thing and then we all go its too different.

If there is an issue with the car it certainly isn't the comfort, performance or dynamics. The press are really rating it here. Seems to be 3 bullseye's there...

So make the 'looks' thing relative as we get used to it. I'd definitely pick that DB11 over any Maser, Merc, Fezza, Audi and probably most Porsches. The 'issue' (if there is one) is that I probably wouldn't as its VERY heavily priced in my opinion. I'd need a lot of convincing not to get a loaded R8 Spyder and a lot of change... Or of course, more likely, a Vanq...
I think it sits in an odd position in the range right now. Will make far more sense when it sits alongside all new and very different vantage plus a fire breathing, more expensive, Vanquish successor. Especially as at that time, it will be available with a slightly slower TT V8, at one imagines say £20-30k less ? At that stage, it becomes more clearly the GT.

It's definitely not an R8 rival. To me, it's a rival to the top spec S class coupe AMG, Bentley continental, maybe an M6, Maser GranTurismo. Problem is, regardless of it's qualities and of course subjective looks (but IMO by far the best looking of the cars I mention above), it looks somewhat pricey compared to those cars. The nearest Ferrari equivalents of FF & 812, admittedly with much more power, are a minimum of £100k more expensive than DB11. So it sits in an unusual middle ground pricewise for a GT. Perhaps the V8 version will make more sense

Will be interesting to see the finished Volante - a number of the DB11's more distinctive styling features appear above the waistline so will disappear when the roof is chopped off

+1 .. yes .. it's the first model in an evolving range. All will become much clearer in due course I suspect.

From what I read DB11 is more GT in concept but dynamically not that far off an R8? The other bigger cars you mention are more Rapide rivals (but they were not for me - I so love parking her next to a blunt slab nose double chinned Continental or sad froggy chops 911 wink )

So back to that cost point - why is it so much more than, say, a 2015 DB9/Rapide when new? This new price territory is far above most of the cars we mentioned but the older Aston predecessors were actually in reality (street price) quite close but just that bit more special to justify it... IMHO?

Yeah.... I have to say the abuse towards the DB11 is a bit harsh. I mean I'm a hater because it has turbos and that's just plain wrong! but actually it goes well and isn't bad at all. Still prefer a Vanquish but it's not a bad car smile Giver it 10 years people will cry out for an AM with turbos and petrol instead of an AM with batteries!
Just to be clear I am not a hater, I think in the right colour they are stunning.

The point of my post was purely around residual value.

An easy mistake to make...ever since you bought your special car ...all you seem to worry about is values......

I'd agree the price seems high, marginally inflated by the launch spec which IIRC is about to end. The new V8 that's coming should presumably bring the price down further again. As I say, agree that to me, it's somewhat pricey

But I can't really see it being that close to an R8 dynamically. That will be the job of replacement Vantage. It is all both relative and subjective of course. However weight, luxury & size in particular make it difficult for me to see the comparison

As for Rapide, that's not dynamically much different to a DB9 and I agree DB11 is in Rapide territory - to me Rapide is a GT with easier access to the rear than a 2 door car - I can't imagine that many people see Rapide as a true rival for many 4 door cars, despite Rapide having the extra doors but I am prepared to stand corrected

I think you're right to say the the price is the issue. It is too expensive at 175k. You can get a very well equipped Porsche turbo or Bentley GTC V8 at around 130k or less (ex demonstrator etc) and that is where the DB11 should sit right now so i think that it will pretty quickly gravitate towards that level once initial orders have been filled.
I have seen a couple in the street in London now and driven one a couple of times and for me they are just not special enough. The interior looks like a dogs dinner with the i-pad like screen stuck in the middle and from the outside it is too wide and not refined enough. I saw a fairly new DB9 GT in Quantum Silver the other day and that is still a pretty car.

I placed an order for a DB11 last May (2016) visited the factory in August (2016 to spec out colour, interior, tech etc.
Took Delivery on March 1st 2017. The dealer does have a demonstrator and one "pre-owned" DB11 for sale, other than that, its around 12months for delivery (In the UK anyway).

It has to be the coolest car ever..... I have never experienced the sheer number of people taking selfies and crowding around the car any time I park it up.
It sounds great, accelerates like a super-car (feels a lot quicker than 3.9sec - 60mph)
Also I went for the Ciinnebar Orange, black roof etc. (Launch edition) so it stands out compared to the usual grey, black or silver Astons out there.

Yes come on Rick photos! Sell this car to us (I'm already doing Rapide marketing so cant help... wink )

And seriously guys you can't compare a 2 seater or 2+2 tiny rear seated car to something that really will carry 4 adults. And yes the Rapide is no limo in the back but anyone under 15 stone and about six foot will be absolutely fine and having a ball as they watch Casino Royale on their wireless headphones with their cooled bums in the back wink !

Now there is a thought.

Will we really be eager to visit an Aston Martin dealer, to buy a sports car that sounds like a Scalextric?

Bringing this one back from the dead. Just a quick one with regards to discounts. I can see some support being offered by Aston Martin, but is 10% out of the equation on this car?

I could get interested if it smells like a well raced scalextric too.
