New DBS Superleggera

I know how easy it is to ‘go off topic‘, but I don‘t think we have mentioned Superleggera for a while.
I think there are already other threads for people to moan about the new Vantage or explain to Andy Palmer where he’s gone/going wrong with Aston Martin. I mean what the hell does he know about cars? Bloody experts!
Think in almost every way it is the perfect replacement for Vanquish . Personally I love the less edgy but muscular design of this car than the more edgy Vantage . Its the first time for a long time that I have test driven a new car and then been disappointed not to be able to drive it home afterwards. Can understand if coming from a DB11 the interior may not be that different but same could be said for previous generation of cars . Just add a wings badge to the rear and job done IMO.

Although having had only an hour test drive, perhaps I'm being a little hasty but IMHumbleO, the DBS Superleggera is in its Sport mode, very close to the upper performance limit for any car to be driven safely on public roads. The power available is "unbelievable", the speed once in motion builds very rapidly but the scary bit is, its practically imperceptible. The normal tell-tale indications are not there, no wind noise, the ride impeccable, the exhaust can be heard but then you've still another 3 higher gears to go and you're by complete surprise very close to 3 figures and barely squeezing the loud pedal! Here follows the 'Verdict' of the What car test drive, I include it as typical of the fabulous Reviews the DBS Superleggera is enjoying:
Verdict
We mentioned in the intro that a statement such as 'it's the best Aston ever' is damning with faint praise. Well, just so you know that's not what we're doing, here's a statement for you:
The DBS Superleggera is the best front-engined, rear-wheel drive GT we've ever driven. Okay, the Ferrari 812 Superfast might have more power, but when we're talking about cars that offer 700bhp-plus each, somehow that just seems like bragging rights. What makes the DBS so special is that Aston Martin has harnessed all that power in a chassis that makes you the master of it, rather than its slave. It means that, believe it or not, this 715bhp car is one that you can enjoy genuinely not just on a track but also on the road.
Epic performance
Amazing traction makes it usable and fun
Perfect blend of handling poise and ride comfort
Obviously it’s pricey
Limited practicality
Interior quality could be improved in places
I agree with their opinion, with the exception perhaps on the interior but they are not alone in expressing some disappointment in that regard.

It's winning me over.... initially even seen in the flesh it looked 'heavy', truck like, especially with turgid black alloys.
Now I'm seeing British muscle. Not necessarily in a sharp suit, just outright brawn, and with bright alloys (like them above) starts to redefine Astons 'look'.
Which I still think will struggle to better the previous design language, which simply does not get old.
I am though warming to the bravery of the new stuff, they're flexing, and in the face of Ferrari's sharp edged stuff, this becomes a genuine alternative.
Need to sort out the interior design though, pronto.
Need to keep it all stylish and not get swamped with Mercedes tech and influence...

They really have hit the sweet spot haven't they Rich,,, the last time I felt this gobbed smacked was with the previous DBS launched in 2007,,,, in black, that car did then and still does make the hairs on the back of neck bristle,,,, isn't living in AM Geekland just wonderful though.
Just need to convince my wife it's a good idea and jack up the valuation of my company for when we sell. I guess the ease with which I can manage the former depends on the degree of success with the later. RichB said:

The "old" DB9, DBS, Vanquish and Vantage if you were to put them together there was distinct DNA through the whole design.
You now do that with the new DB11, DBS and Vantage and whilst DB11 and DBS have some design clues it seems to go out of the window with the Vantage.....almost as if yoof type stylists designed it. Yes, yes they need to attract certain clientele but at the price being sold i think its yoof Youtubers who "buy" cars are the only ones that drive them in that category.
