New member - warranty question
Discussion
Hi there all. Have been visiting this site for a few months now and between you all, you've given me laughs, got me out enjoying my V8V 07 56 plate on wet, cold winter days when I thought it should be stored away in the garage, secured my Chipex order for the additional stone chips I've now helped create, and importantly for me (alias "Captain Budget" in our household), saved me money at service time !
On this last point, my car was bought from Stratstone's last year and is just about to come out of that nice, comforting warranty and my simple question to this noble and wise community is - is it worth 'investing' in another 1 year warranty?
Look forward to hearing from you, cheers Paul

you will only be able to get the plus warranty as it's too old for the premium. I know that restricts a claim to £10k, so it's only really if something catastrophic happens that would come into play.
Not sure if there are other restrictions over the over premium warranty though, so definitely worth reading the small print.

As a 2007MY owner, I've run 14 months / 9k miles without warranty (on a now 40k mile car)- I've had one issue with an ABS / speed sensor that wouldn't have been covered - cost @ £500 to remediate (new rear hub). Besides that, plain sailing. I'd bank that money as contingency and make sure you use your car often enough so nothing breaks

AM have just amended their warranty & you can now get "Premium" on cars over 5 years old now. 12 months ‘Premium’ cover is £1799.99 inclusive of IPT 24 months ‘Premium’ cover is £3499.99 inclusive of IPT !!
I stand corrected. Not that I'm planning on it, but they also had an 85k max mileage that rules me out anyway. bomberh said:
So if people are not renewing their warranty what recovery have you arranged if the unthinkable happens?
I decided not to the the warranty, if nothing happens then I'lllook back and think that was a good decision, if a catastrophe happens then I'll look back and wish I'd taken it out. It really depends upon your attitude to risk. My view is never to take out the extra warranties that are a feature of just about everything you can buy nowadays, I'd rather bank the money and I am quids in over the years ( up to now!).With regards recovery, plenty available on comparison sites or simpy google it. They will sell you different types to suit your own needs, from basic roadside assistance which includes recovery to the nearest garage, to full blown cross Europe transport of you, your car and extended family. All depend what you need.
I was contacted by the aa by chance. I have some financial products with them, and they offered me roadside assistance and recovery for £2.00 for a year ( yes, two GB pound) if I just listened to their offers. I thought it would be rude not to after the nice man had gone to all that trouble to ring me, so listened to each service they had, declined them all, and got my recovery for £2.00. I now hope I never have to use it!
Best of luck, whatever you decide will be right for you, enjoy the car warranty free or warranted
Thanks for your guidance. Had a dodgy Sat Nav (screen went dark) but sorted with a re-boot. Condensation in the headlight cover also sorted with silica-gel pack. And like many other AM owners, the Emission Control Warning came on after filling up. Sorted by AM Roadside Assistance which cleared the fault code. Engineer actually suggested it was dirty fuel as there was slight misfire immediately after filling up at my local Shell garage. Also suggested that I should use V-Power 97-ron(which I've done) though it seems plenty of AM owners don't use this. Having looked at my ECU data, he also said "I see you've been driving enthusiastically too" which I took to be a compliment
Other than these issues, I think my 14,000 miler has been pretty robust so my thinking is to bank the money and sort out some roadside assistance.
Any other observations on using 97 vs 95 ron?

The 'plus' is still a good warranty, especially if you've got a good dealer.
Any engine or gearbox out work will cost big money. I've asked the same question, warranty or not. I've decided its a good insurance policy, I'd rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. £1300 is not a lot of money for piece of mind.
I have been to a specialist when another car (DB9) was there waiting for warranty work to be done. The warranty was a non-Aston policy and I was disgusted to hear how it was being handled. The car had a fault diagnosed by the specialist, the warranty company questioned their findings and decided to send out an assessor, who then didn't turn up and rescheduled for the next day. Essentially, that car was off the road for three days and no work done yet because of "procedure". I'd be banging heads.
