During a frenzied tour of Scotland last week, my 2009 4.7 Vantage appears to have picked up a very occasional hesitation.

It is very infrequent - just once / day! Usually happens when the car has been driving along at a constant gentle speed for a while (ie warming it up in the morning) and then when I apply more throttle, the car begins to accelerate, then hesitates heavily, enough to cause to feel alarmed, but by the time your body is ready to react, it is accelerating cleanly again.

As I say, it then doesn't repeat itself for the rest of the day while the car is warmed up. It feels like the fuel cuts out for a split second?

I had a thought that it might have been caused by some poor quality fuel at the tip of Scotland so have filled it with a couple of tanks of premium super unleaded since but the hesitation was there again (once) last night when I took the car out for a run.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Marc

I have experienced the same thing, probably about a year or so ago. It was when commencing full throttle, following a period of steady light throttle.

Did nothing about it, and for a long time it has never reoccurred.

Have no idea what the cause might have been.

You could try cleaning the butterfly valve in the throttle body. It sometimes get oily deposits and sticks. There's a YouTube video somewhere of Rick DMS showing you how to do it. V quick and easy.

Interestingly I recently had the same thing on 2010 4.7. Was going to post the same question but then it hasn't happened since

Wow, this happened to me twice now in the 3 weeks of ownership of my car (2009 4.7). Drives then suddenly as if the ignition has been cut for a 1/2 sec then straight back on. Its alarming as people have mentioned.
I may contact Works and see what they say.

This happened a few times on my last Aston a MY12V8VR. Never got to the bottom of it and sold the car last year for an SP10 R. Hasn't happened with this car (fingers crossed).

I had an N 240 on hire recently and that did it twice in 3 weeks. On one occasion going round a roundabout in 2nd gear it actually locked the back wheels and kicked the tail out. Sent it back!

Thanks everyone - that's an unexpected set of similar experiences?!

Ok well I'll email the dealer and ask if they know anything or can investigate under warranty. I'll post the results if they come up with anything.

It's not just the 4.7 - I've had exactly this a couple of times in my 4.3. It's quite alarming, as you say, but happens just once and then not again.

Would enjoy hearing any solutions.

Probably unrelated especially as it seems to have happened on a 4.3, but there is a recall for the throttle pedal.

First port of call is cleaning the butterfly with some carb cleaner (4.3 & 4.7)

I had a very similar problem with my first V8 Vantage around seven years ago. It happened on numerous occasions with the car cutting out briefly and, ultimately, Aston swapped it out for a new car. Which did the same! There was quite a thread about it at the time which you may be able to search the site for.

The problem was (surprise, surprise) a software bug. Under certain circumstances it thought it was on the over-run [even if it wasn't] and went into some kind of recalibrate mode which caused the engine to briefly cut out.

Happened a few times on my 4.7 as well. As described only when driving steadily and then adding a bit more go.

There's a known problem with intermittent fuel pick-up pump in the fuel tank. Changing it may cure this problem. Anyone else had their pump changed?

I have had this a couple of times on my 09 plate 4.7. Usually when I have been idling at a junction and put my foot down to go - almost feels like I have stalled the car - but it recovers to normal tickover almost immediately.

Only on early cars IIRC

Well mine is at Works for the same thing now. Sent a email for the techs at Gaydon as to the circumstances of the 2 times it did it.
