AuTo Express - New Aston ?
Discussion
According to Auto Express - from the lips of Bez himself - the Aston that has been caught testing is a completely new Aston - not a DBS or a DB9 - ( the cynic in me thinks It'll just happen to look like both no doubt ) a special car for the centenary year that will not be a special edition or a DB9 with a centenary badge he is reported as saying . Any ideas ?

Bez also said the DBS was a totally new car whereas it was a tweaked DB9! I wouldn't give credence to anything he says and Autocar should know better.
It may have a new name of course that hasn't been used before. Seems smart money still says that the 310 is the Vanquish II.
+1 we all know it will be VH platform car, probably with a tweaked V12 or detuned 177 engine & a name that Aston have'nt used for a bit It may have a new name of course that hasn't been used before. Seems smart money still says that the 310 is the Vanquish II.
Making ridiculous progress around the backroads near Gaydon (on the way to Bamford Rose) I saw something interesting...
Was bright sliver and heavily disguised with silver tape. Vantage wheelbase but 310 style bumpers and sills, VERY aggressive looking vehicle. No obvious V12V style bonnet vents. Only a short look as we were both flying along (well within the legal limits assuredly).
Next gen Vantage..?

I haven't seen project 310 preview vehicle yet and I assume those that have can't yet say anything, but it has always struck me that it could be between a vantage and DB9/S in length and therefore be a 2 seater - it goes without saying that I still think that project 310/vanquish/new DBS/centenary vehicle are one and the same. Could what you saw in fact have been project 310 testing ?Was bright sliver and heavily disguised with silver tape. Vantage wheelbase but 310 style bumpers and sills, VERY aggressive looking vehicle. Once that's out of the way, surely logic suggests the DB9/Virage successor will come before the vantage and possibly, the rehashed rapide will be next as that's something that needs addressing
So I don't personally see a new vantage on the cards for a couple of years but AM do have this habit of surprising us all ! Perhaps there's even room for a standalone vehicle with a new name that replaces V12 vantage to run alongside V8 Vantage ?!? i.e. a more focussed, model dedicated, GT3 type car. Highly unlikely of course, but I understand V12 Vantage production definitely ceases by around Q3 2012
I still don't quite get how AM will fill the gap for it's loyal buyers that want a more focussed sports car, faster/more expensive than Vantage S, once both V12 Vantage goes and the new dbs/vanquish is auto only.......other than by doing what you are of course ! :-)

Did the guys on the factory tour not see the "alleged" new DBS on the production line on the 27th?
supposedly, hence my comment about whether people could say anything yetbut there is nothing 'alleged' about a new DBS. The ultimate edition is public knowledge as is the fact that it is the sign off for the DBS
here is something from H R Owen / Broughtons that I received a few days ago by email which confirms same
http://www.hrowen.co.uk/aston-martin/news-and-offe...
so we all know there is a replacement coming. We all know it's project 310. We also effectively know it's unlikely to be called DBS and that it's being referred to be some as a vanquish successor, but may not have the vanquish name, in which case it will one assumes have a name that starts with a V and possibly be a brand new name to Aston because I can't think what's left

I will be a spoil-sport and let you know that we didn't and people are just teasing. There were a couple of very random parts around the factory floor badged 310 but absolutely nothing of any note or interest.
That's odd Tim as my mate who works there seemed to think you would have done Shmee said:
Well now I'm just jealous of those going to the next one who presumably will, but I'm afraid I've only seen a few components, that to me look the same as the old ones.
We will just have to wait and see. I'm away at the moment but will email details of those LR dealers when I get back next week.Shmee said:
