PPF - Please tell me this isn't right.........
Discussion
Just been for a mooch about at Works and they have two MF V12S SIII tin tops, very nice indeed. However, on closer inspection of one of them I realised that car had a frontal PPF..........then when looking closer.......WTF is this !!!!!!
Please somebody tell me this is not how it's supposed to be.....look at the wing mirror FFS

Lets just say thats not the best of an example of PPF application ...thankfully.... and it also looks a little off colour. The best stuff stays transparent for years and the application is a lot tighter.
Ive had it on 2 cars, both black, and unless I used the wrong kind of polish that left a residue that got caught on an edge you would struggle to see it, the lines really followed panel lines very closely

We've got the V12V and DBS full front wrapped in PPF and I can say without any doubt, it's not like that!!
Every edge is wrapped under the panel. The bonnet vents were removed to get the film properly applied under them. The mirror film is heated and stretched on. It's totally seamless. That looks like a DiY kit.
It just goes to show, just because you can jump in the ring, doesn't mean you can box.

Yuk. Clearly a low end attempt. I wouldn’t touch the stuff myself. Machine polish and ceramic coating much better. After 13k miles my black Aston has picked up maybe a dozen stone chips, which I’ve fixed to a high standard with a Chipex kit. I’ll just get the front end repainted if it gets out of hand.
Out of interest, I’d like to know what a high end PPF costs. Nobody ever seems to own up?

V12V Full bonnet - £400 inc VAT
V12V Front kit including bumper, splitter etc to rear of headlamps but with full bonnet. Side sills fully covered. Wing mirrors. Rear gravel rash protection behind wheels (diffuser/ish). £1,250 + VAT
V12V Full bonnet, two front wings full covers + DBS full front wing covers £1000 + VAT
I ended up with full front coverage all over to the back of the front wings. Full sills and rear arches to the waist line and rear diffuser covered.
It's a lot of piece of mind. Plus - cleaning heavy soiling and bug splats isn't a worry either anymore.

That's not how it's supposed to be. The line across the roof rail makes me want to weep. Please somebody tell me this is not how it's supposed to be.....look at the wing mirror FFS :confused
To do PPF properly you have the sheets designed specifically for the car. And it wraps around the edges so you don't see the edges. You should have to look hard to notice that the car has it
That's been done by some cowboy.
I had even a worse job at Morries Aston Martin, they had just switched methods and I demanded they change it, and they fully admitted the botch job and upgraded the materials and did an outstanding job on the car including paint correction and ceramic coating - no extra charge - I'd demand a complete redo.

Topaz are the go to guys for most of the prestige dealers in these parts (Aston included). The Bristol branch is just about to open if it hasn't already. Typically a full car PPF would be between £3.5k - 5k. That's for every panel, cut from database templates. The process for application requires quite a bit of disassembly of the car as the film needs to return to the back of panels, rather than the example shown above where it's more like graphics that stop at shut lines, and has been laid on like some 1990's wallpaper...Out of interest, I’d like to know what a high end PPF costs. I had my car painted at Works and then wrapped by them. Trust me when I say, all those that say polishes work - they don't!
Wrapping is also considerably cheaper than painting.......having had mine done I know.
BTW, can't reccomend Works enough. They made a brilliant job on my car as you would expect.

Your comment on Chipex is interesting. I have seen various adverts and reviews which look good but I have been wary of considering it for the DB9. It is that good in your opinion? I am after something that will do a few stone chips on Tungsten. ThanksPhil74891 said:

Got my V12VS Roadster PPF'd in March. Full front end including splitter, sills, windscreen surround, wing mirrors and front of rear arches - £1,500 and I'm happy with results especially having just paid £2k to have a few panels with marks repainted, knowing I would probably either have to do same again next year or live with an ever increasing chipped front end. Out of interest, I’d like to know what a high end PPF costs. Nobody ever seems to own up?
