Tell me about Aston Martin
Discussion
Evening folks. I have an itch that needs scratching. Also thinking of an Aston.
Now maybe it is the Irish chip but I always saw Aston was, well, establishment. Then I learned the DB came from the tractor side and, well, that made it alright
Problem is I have a magazine view. Never in deep enough to know a lot - know a multitude of sins forgiven due to "Britishness".
1)Aston classics - forget about it for now. 35 and mortgaged
2)That great big 80 lump (V8 Vantage??) - like a muscle car. I hear the sills melt. Ship rapidly sailing as prices firm. Bills, bills, bills. Getting prettier - amazing what time does.
3)DB-7 - Jag. parts bin? XK but more expensive to serivce? Not built in huge volume so a possible one to watch?
4)DB-9 - grand tourer, well styled, ok build after '07, some parts bin raiding, nice noise, waft to Monaco - tailored luggage a must.
5)Vantage - noise, short chassis, small.
6)DB Toyota/Aygo thingy - my oh my. Brand building or what.
7)Vantage - coupe, Volante - convertible, Zagato??
Having been in the Porsche camp and now Mercedes but wondering what attracted those on here to the marque and, if you had a budget of around £40k where on the above list would you go?
Apologies if the above is a bit broad but I can't help liking all Astons at the minute and need some reasons to stay on track.

For 40k you can get a 70s or 80s V8. These wont go down in value, and you might see a very healthy return on an investment** And they are fantastic to drive, in an old-school sort of way. Once thought of as a big car, they are now mearly average in terms of size.
This is what I would like to do but it will be a couple of years before I have a garage. Also needs to be a daily driver. Work car part is full of V8Vs - looks too small for my wife who prefers a waft. Have the Caterham for real driving.- Dont underestimate the running costs. They will need parts and regular fettling. Fuel is the cheap bit. Can you re-tension the timing chain every 5k miles yourself? If not then...
Doff my cap to the guy in the carpark with an Eagle restored jag in who drives it in daily - has popped the hard top on this week.
DB-9 looks like best option unless I find a V8 in a barn (edit - young and I have a fine new pair of slippers from Selfridges - royal blue with a fleece lining.......
