It's Sunday, my wife daughter and I are off out for lunch but we're taking the family 4x4 and not the Aston. I bought the v8v because I feel it looks and feels much sportier than the db9. But now I wonder if I should've bought a db9 after all - I'd probably use it more because my daughter (4 yrs old) would be be able to get in the back. That being said, I took my daughter to the dealership to try out the back of a db9 and it was TIGHT. As such I resolved it was pointless thinking I'd actually use the back seats (my wife grumbled about sticking her in the back of a 911)...I wonder now if it's worth having them, forsaking the sporty look of a v8v and accepting that it'll be a squeeze but at least we get to all go out in something funkier that the 4x4??? I'd lose money on the (re)trade in, is it worth it? Btw my wife and I are both about 5'6.

It was never bought as a family car (obviously). I see that my post reads a bit like nonsense. I don't feel i want a GT or sports saloon. I'm still just 37 and want a fun car but there seems to be so little out there to choose from (coming from a 997) so got the car my heart wanted (and my pocket could afford) - the v8v. I guess I'm waiting for someone to pipe up and tell me it's ok to be 37 and own a db9 or rapide :-)

If you have a family car as well as the Aston, why does it matter?
Because each time we get in it, I feel sad that I have to leave the Aston in the garage :-)

The Vantage was not designed as a family car. Why would you expect it to perform as one? And if you are driving it correctly, probably should not have a little one in it anyway. :-)smile
I thought child seats with a multi-point harness were invented for this purpose :-)

Is there something wrong with the car? I've seen a couple of people post this kind of page so that it doesn't look odd when the advert goes up after such a short period of time. Sorry if I am way off just like others the whole situation seems a little odd to me.
You're a suspicious fella :-) no, nothing wrong as far as I can tell. If I thought there was I'd be at Startastone's door telling them about it!

I wouldn't put a four year old in the back seat of my DB9, it's too cramped. Even if your daughter is comfortable to start with it won't be long before she starts complaining about lack of space.
Thanks brakedwell, I wonder why they put back seats in them and then make them useless. I don't suppose you've ever seen or experienced 997 back seats? Theyre small but I found them useable (to an extent). If a db9 is similar then that could work for me. As I said, neither I nor my wife are tall as such.

Have you tried a Rapide? If you haven't be prepared to have any preconceptions blown away.

Can you tell that i've got the itch? rolleyes;)......
Well, you're not doing a good job of hiding it :-) they did try to sell me one at stratstone when looking at the v8v but at 150k new it was way too expensive/overpriced for me. The idea of a rapide is definitely starting to grow on me. I wasn't sure about the elongated body (purists: flame me freely for reducing what is quite possibly one of the best engineered cars on the planet to something with a long body, but that's just me) - when you really think about what else is out there (conti, maser, 612...) in that range it suddenly becomes far more attractive. It's interesting, I might wait for my April dividends and chuck some cash at one. If only they were a little cheaper I'd start to seriously think about getting one sooner. Hmmm, I'm starting to think, keep the v8v and enjoy it ...for now.

Keep the car, get rid of the wife n kid... Easy to pick up a new wife with the V8V anyway! biggrinbiggrin
Lol. Not quite there yet but....

Regarding a wedding last Sunday. I created the need to see a colleague about some business, thus asked my wife to take the sprog and herself to the wedding in her car. I then dutifully met them at the wedding in my aston (having conducted my urgent business) and proceeded to drive home in my Aston - on my own.

I don't know for how long I can sustain this pseduo deceit.

Lovely crinkly edges. biggrin
You clearly haven't seen earth MK II. It uses state of the art pan dimensional fractals to connect a single fjord to any number of infinite fjords that exist across the multiverse. this way the crinkly edges are more beautiful to look at and provide Aston drivers with sharp, winding roads with fully interactive panoramic views of their chosen universe at any point in time (like, show me the universe where I just bought a one-77 and am about to get it on with Heidi Klum...)

I think thats kind of brought this thread back on track,,,Jockman :-)

I went out for lunch today with my wife and our 2. 1/2 year old.......we took the 4x4 and left the the DB9 in the garage......that's normal.......but when I take my wife out for dinner we take the Aston

Stop winging and enjoy your car...... smile
Fair point, and if you're still having to take the 4x4 even with the back seats in your 9 then I guess I should think accepting this reality. Btw, how tall are you? Is the back really so cramped that you can't get your 2 yr old in it? Or you can but it's just a PITA?

I'll stop winging soon as I probably should be betting to bed.

I have never seen inside a 911, but do I know the back of the DB9 has acres of lovely leather and inches of space! My wife is 5' 7" and you can see how far back her seat is.

Thanks a million for posting that :-) now that is tight. Until they invent removable legs for little children, I doubt it's going to work. Also, I think my marriage can survive the current situation "no back seats, end of" as opposed to "why the he'll dd you get a car with back seats like that!!???". 4x4 + Aston it is then!

Good choice - I can see why you'd question the ability to get some good use from the car - but all the more reason to go out simply for a drive or book a nice restaurant and a babysitter so you can take out the Mrs too. wink
As I type, my daughter is at my mum's and my wife is beautifying herself for a jaunt to a nice little restaurant, and perhaps a movie afterwards. With some good advice and planning, life is a happier and more meaningful place.

Thank you PH AM forum :-)
