So how best to describe this. Car not fully warmed up (done a mile or so from cold), in second gear, take up to 3000 rpm and then let coast to slow down. I hear a highish pitched whine which lasts a few seconds and then goes.
Only seems to happen in second gear and when the engine is not fully up to temperature. When warm it doesn't happen.
Anyone else heard this or know what it is?

I think I have an identical problem, I get it in 3rd as well and the same as you described.
Taking mine in for a service this Saturday to Bridge Mill Motors, going to ask the chaps what they think.
Will let you know.
Please do. Maybe it's just because the gearbox is cold but I don't remember hearing the noise before today. Taking mine in for a service this Saturday to Bridge Mill Motors, going to ask the chaps what they think.
Will let you know.

If it is the whine I think you are describing, I was told it is the oil pump. You have a dry sump engine and when cold it is a bit noisy. If it quietens down when warm it could be that. When I got the V8V, I made the same comment
Definitely quietens down when warm so that may well be it. Just wondering why I haven't heard it before.steveatesh said:
Make that + 2 my My2010 started to make the exact same noise but in all gears a few months after ownership. It was actually driven by an AM technician visiting my dealer and he told me it was the oil pump and actually normal, even though it didn't make the noise when brand new.
Sleep easy tonight
Thanks, I will now Sleep easy tonight
