Can I replace the rear view mirror?

Hello folks,
The rear view mirror, along with the indicator / washer stalks are the worst tactile / designed pieces in the car.
There is nothing I can do about the stalks until Tony Hall sorts something out
but I was wondering if I could simply swap the mirror for a nicer one. I really liked the oval one in my E46 M3, wondering if I could just source one of those and swap?
Has anyone done this, or has the heat finally got to me?

I swapped the normal manual rear view mirror in my 07 MY Vantage for the Auto-Dimming mirror. It's a much better design and function and the wiring is already in place. An easy swap with 'plug & play'.
