All depends on whether the old man wants four cars on the drive anyway...

Hmmmmmmmm.

I could buy an Integra Type R and wait til I'm 25!

In regard to the above, probably find your exccess is at least £550,mine is,on a group 20,even at my huge age,do your sums to see if its all worth it.IMHO,I'd go for a lower ins group 'till age 25+,(assuming you don't have money to burn, that is)

Dan, why are you getting red of the MR2?

Mostly due to a lack of straight-line fireworks to be honest, mate! Takes nearly 8 seconds to hit 60 and 20 to 100. You put your foot down in fifth and bugger all happens.

And it's limited to 112. I know I could sort that if I wanted to but I'd like to spend as little money as possible on the car, given that although it looks nice, there is very little sense of occaision to be had.

I just can't justify spending the money on that particular car!

I found Adrian Flux, based in Kings Lynn quite good. There is also a list on the FTO's Owners' Club web site (www.ftooc.org.uk) of suggested insurers.

If you have a full NCD it is worth also trying Privilege.

Sense of occaision:

When you walk out to the car, or sit in the car and think to yourself, "yeaaaaah this is the stuff!"

In other words, a car to be proud of, and the G-Limited just isn't it.

Not too keen to be honest, mate.

Great cars but for me personally, they just don't have it in the looks department.

That's what I was looking for and found. Would probably get the same from a cerbera or tuscan but couldn't afford that!

Had a little run out today in the rain and on the way home the number of thunbs-up and waves I got brought a hooge grin to my face. Almost as much as winding it up and hitting boost on the 2nd turbo does!

True, they are the ugliest TVR imo.

What floats your boat?

The affordable stuff is nearly all Japanese, and they're all the usual - group 20 - suspects:

Integra (group 18 although peak torque of 130 lb/ft at something above 7000 rpm makes me less keen), RX7 (which is what I'd really like), Supra TT (ugly but goes like the clappers), Skyline GTR (32 or 33), S15 Silvia (rare as rocking horse sh*t)...

Then there's the Porsche 944 Turbo/951 but I'm a bit too young to be hooning around in old school Porches.

BMWs and the like don't really float my boat, and hot hatches are out of the question - As great as they are I couldn't love one.

200sx-s13 or 14? group 16insurance iirc.very modifiable(can even use turbos & intercoolers etc from Volvo 440s-well cheap),rwd, good drifter, even the autos are plenty quick.Appeal at all?
Or a Saab 900 T16 or similar turbo? One of the fastest 2-3rd gear ratio:accel on the planet imo, cheap too.

The S13 appeals more than the S14, but I'd have to perform some costly external modifications if I actually wanted to be seen in it .

Of course, they are dirt cheap but many also have stratospheric mileage.

I had actually considered it, but again I'm not sure if the sort of car where I could think "this is the business."

You may find that what is 'the Biz' now,is'nt quite so alluring in a few years. For instance at the age of nearly 40 I had nearly as many fave or 'must have' cars as hot dinners. My advice from 'an old timer'hohoho! would be to compromise your performance desires now & save for some thing you 'REALLY' want.
Boring isnt it.Mind you by the time your 30 an R34 Skyline GTR will prob cost peanuts

You do have a point.

Being sensible about things, the S13/14 would be a good compromise (I hate that word).

Especially if you take an early S14 and turn it into an all-out dritfer:

Dan, the japs do cheap speed, but they are also the most expensive car group to insure. A Griff 500 costs 30% of the insurance of my MR2!

Just decided to run a 200SX S13 and a Griff through Tesco online.

For the first tme ever, Tesco have been able to give me an online quote on a Japanese car (they couldn't even do that for the MR2).

£1300 fully comp on the Nissan although I'm confident I could better that by at least a hundred quid.

Wouldn't quote me on the Griff, or an RX7.

I suppose there is the potential for a 400 BHP tuneup if I wanted to, so that's something...

I do have a certain fondness for the 200SX S13.

I'm quite a fan of the drift look actually (minus the spoiler):

Check the completely effed up camber on that front wheel too!

I quite like the spoiler on that one The drift look IMHO is very and if I could afford to run one would defiantly get one.

I don't think it's bad either... But I think the car would look better without it.

Look how I've completely hiacked this guy's thread!

Sorry, fella!

That is very true. I am just taking it under consideration though.

You could do a fair amount of tweaking with one for the price of a rex though...

It might start to get special, or at least interesting, then!
