All I'm saying is, if I was looking at a 911 back then, I would not look at a RX7 as an alternative.

They are not on the same level in my opinion.
True having owned a 911 and currently owning an RX7

The RX7 is definitely in the level above - it drives better, looks far better, sounds better and is a very rare sight

However I came across this thread as I was looking at RX8 engine swaps because the one thing the RX8 can do, which the vast majority of 2+2 cars can't - is carry rear passengers

Surely it would be cheaper to get the engine rebuilt instead of doing a swap. Plenty of places will make them "reliable" once built. On top of that you can get some porting done as well.

If you want someone to swap an RX-8 for you, Craig at DynoTorque has apparently put an LS1 into at least one. I have the impression his work is high quality.

If you want a kit, there seem to be some in the US, unsure if LHD is a barrier thought

If you want to DIY it, I understand that an NC MX-5 front subframe fits right on, you can then have the 2.0 or possibly a 2.5 four-pot, probably the easiest way to get a more reliable and economical RX-8 and keep things factory and the handling good (no worse than an MX-5 at the least).

Whatever you do, I imagine the electrical part of the build will be at least 50% of the challenge.

If you could find a well-swapped car for sale that would perhaps be easier.
