Nissan Cedric on the way
Discussion
I did have a Crown Athlete previously, was a great car. Variety is the spice of life etc etc
I do have a spare band expander in the garage, I could try and get it installed just to get onto some more modern radio I suppose
I find the expanders usually give you either Radio 1 or Radio 2 range, never both.

Nice, I have a Nissan Leopard from ‘97 with the VQ30DET engine, had it in England 18 months now and it has been perfectly reliable. Parts are a bit of a pain but I have managed to find and ship everything I need so far, imagine it will be easier for this model.
I think my leopard and this are quite closely related, is yours the RB25 or VQ30?
Sorry, just re-read your initial post, looks like it is the VQ30DET, it’s a wonderful engine!

Yeah, its the VQ
Looking forward to just using it. Not going to do anything to it, seems lovely the way it is. I tried a few different stereo feed options, nothing really worked. I ended up happy with a simple FM transmitter, sits neat and works well.
Gave it a good clean and just waiting on the documents

Reg arrived from the DVLA but its down as a Nissan "Exempt" on the v5 for some reason.
Ive sent the v5 back asking for it to say Cedric, lets see what they say, not that its stopping much happening. Annoying though.
Couldn't insure it through Admiral as I expected but sorted with Adrian Flux as usual with the rarer options.
Plates ordered then good to go

It's unlikely you'll get it changed. I've had this before and it's because there's no model codes added on the V55/5 when submitted and they will not self populate the model box. Yeah, a rare treat
Took the Cedric out today for its first run. I dont think any car Ive had has had as much attention, not expected. I only went maybe 5 miles but had a lot of curious looks and a handful of thumbs up or other reactions from enthusiasts
I thought it would blend in, but seems not.
Drives great, smooth and quiet. The power is more impressive than I expected and although I loved my old Crown I think the VQ30 is the better lump over the 1JZ in my early impressions.
At 60mph I'm getting a bit of wobble but it feels like tyres. It has 3 Bridgestones and 1 Japanese Ditch-finder so I'll try to eyeball a new rear set and then just check the tracking at the same time.

Looks lovely, had an RB25DET one of these. Only tips I can give are beware of the headunit/heater control system dying, apparently these can go and replacements aren't so easy to come by (plus there is extra complexity with different versions that use different plugs in the back). Also watch for rust on the front suspension turrets.
These things really cruise well, enjoy!

Very interesting thread and a great purchase there, OP. Congratulations l.
Nice and refreshing to see you're keeping it standard, too. I'm not a fan of JDM saloons being singled out to be pimped up beyond recognition. I have a GX81 Mark II and struggle to find any others on the internet that haven't been modified.
I came across two Nissan Cedrics (1997 model years) in Dubai Autozone the other week, both of them Broughams but one of which being the VIP edition.
Oddly the VIP had a velour interior and a few extra toys whereas the standard Brougham had a nicer full leather interior.
The dealership itself was an absolute treasure trove and I spent a good hour or so there.
There were a few Mark IIs (JZX 90 and 100) and right next to the VIP Cedric a JZX 100 Toyota Chaser Avante Four in white and totally unmolested. I didn't check the engine size as I was mesmerised by the Cedrics, the kei trucks and the fleet of Mitsubishi Pajero Minis.
Keep us posted on life with the Cedric.
As someone who's been eyeing up Q car Toyota saloons for long enough and biased like that, I'm feeling swayed to get a Cedric if budget, space etc allow it.
Congrats on the purchase again.

Turns out its actually Lambs Wool, hah
Someone on Facebook knows these well and this is the top spec interior it seems
Now that I think about it, it did have a slightly firmer feel about it. They certainly don't make them like they used to.Someone on Facebook knows these well and this is the top spec interior it seems
If I'm there again anytime soon I'll make sure I get some photos.
Conundrum is whether to go for the VIP Brougham or the JZX100 Chaser.
These cars certainly have character.
