TBH he has never attacked me personally either, and he does seem to know his stuff, not sure if its just regurgitated[sp] or learnt the hard way. I have seen him attack others though and become pretty much the ultimate troll on the MKIV Supra Board.

I actually think a lot of what he says is designed to get a rise out of people - with more than a little success it would seem!

I remember him from the Elise board He used to bang on constantly about the Soarer being the best handling car ever (yes, on the Elise board) due to some trick active suspension it has.

Hi Guys
I see you are discussing the Lexus / Toyota Soarer and which is best 2.5 TT or 4.0V8.
Interestingly that is a discussion on many Soarer discussion forums.
This one covers Toyota Imports but especially Soarers and they are a friendly(ish) bunch www.toyotaimportsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php

To answer the handling of the V8 question, there were 3 types of V8. The UZZ30, UZZ31, and UZZ32 (only 873 made).
UZZ30 Coil sprung (lightest)
UZZ31 TEMS Air suspension with various options (probably the most popular V8)
UZZ32 or "The Active" had Active suspension which actually worked, negates body roll and makes a fine handling car for a "barge". Unfortunately at the cost of performance. It did have every option which, when you consider the car was made from 1991, is amazing. In dash TV and sat nav, 12x cd changer, rear view camera, full leather, electric seats, sonic mirrors, lcd rear view mirror etc etc.

The 2.5 TT (JZZ30) is no slouch 172mph top speed 280 bhp. It had fewer options and adjustable suspension on most models. Because of the choice of options when new, no two Soarers are quite the same.

Badged as Toyota Soarer in Japan they were badged as Lexus SC400 (SC300 3-litre) in the US (hence the naming confusion). The ones currently in the UK and Australia are Japanese Grey imports and are all technically Toyotas but many owners badge them as Lexus. For more info and a chat go to www.toyotaimportsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php.
Cheers
Rob

They sound cool, but what exactly do 'sonic mirrors' do? Is it like the sonic shower in star trek which cleans you without water....

Yep, pretty amazing spec for a 1991 car, considering what you can pick these up for now.... (V8)

Yeah they are a bargain at the moment. Obviously with any older car there are some nails about but there are some nice examples for around £3000 - £5000 (or less by dealers who don't know what they've got). The good thing with the V8 at any rate is that they are so unstressed that they can run for thousands of miles with the proper maintenance. There are reports of a million miler (or is that km's) in the states!
Sonic mirrors... sounds like they emit some ultrasonic ray to deter thieves but in fact it is a method of clearing rainwater from the mirrors, a rapid vibration.
Another neat feature is that on some models the steering column moves electronically out of the way when the key is removed to let people have an easier entry and exit from the car.
Normally all these gadgets would be a worry on an older car but as this is basically a Lexus the quality is amazing and the electric stuff is reliable (a regular problem is a "blinking" dashboard and the CD multichanger skips, the dash can be fixed by a TV repairman).

Here is a picture of mine. Not quite as racy as the one Tiff Needell drove on 5th gear this week...

It is a 2.5 TT-TL. Leccy seats, mirrors. Lovely...

the twin turbo is definately the engine to go for if you like fun.
the V8 is very lazy, not particularly astounding performance wise, and as mentioned, is not particularly tuneable.
the twin turbo has one of the best engines ever to leave japanese shores fitted, is highly tuneable, doesn't send you to sleep.

no contest

Just watch for paintwork esp on the rear quarters, if its had a dink its very hard to get right due to the large size. Blinky dashpods can be a problem but fixable. Apart from that pretty bombproof.

There's a man Ebay who fixes em, its the resistors apparently, bit of a pin to get the dashpod out but not impossible, instructions found on the net in the Soarer forums.

Just looked in on here again. I am in the process of buying a house so the TT will be partly financing the costs. It is the one in the picture on the thread. I have put an ad in the classifieds on here under Lexus. It is located in Yorkshire. Contact me for info. I have emailed Yakubu in case he is interested.
