Do you know of the 'secret but everybody knows it' EC reset trck for import Imprezas?
Have a look on Scoobynet, it'll be on there.
Air control valves can get gummed up IIRC - should be easy to take off and clean with carb cleaner.
Cheers for the tip. I'm downloading a manual now so I'll pull the car apart a bit later. Grey, overcast and icy outside. Perfect time to be grubbing around in an engine bay! smile

It doesn't have a cat as far as I know - didn't think a 1993 import needed one?
if it's anything like my RX7 general MOT centres didn't acknowledge it doesn't have a cat and didn't need one at that age as the UK spec car did have one and therefore until I found a friendly MOT centre computer kept saying no.

If you have a look on the Scooby Owners Website there'll likely be a 'friendly' MOT centre mentioned...

Will definitely check that out, thanks. This is not a good time of year to be buying catalysed exhaust systems...

Update: resetting the ECU cleared the TPS and valve errors. I've been for a long drive and given the car a good thrashing in places but the codes won't come back. I also made a point of looking for anything visible out of the exhaust under throttle, at high revs or on over-run. Nothing.

Could the stored codes be interfering with the car - forcing it into safe mode? It certainly seems smoother and faster since the ECU reset, but that's probably because I'm used to the MR2 now.

Incidentally - about the ECU itself. This isn't quite what I was expecting;

Could a bad map be causing the rich running?

In other news - the Mines ECU might explain why this was so much quicker than the other Impreza WRX I test-drove. smile

Still got it then eh?
Admit it - you need the involvement that only a 2 can provide smile

You must've missed that thread. smile

I'm selling the Scooby as soon as it has an MOT. I love the car but I can't justify keeping two 2-litre turbos and the MR2 doesn't require ludicrous speed before it becomes interesting. The Impreza really is an automotive master-class. I've never driven anything else like it, but it doesn't have the same sense of occasion as the MR2.

In spite of its (relatively) pitiful performance, the dire fuel economy and the 'pathcy' reliability, when all's said and done I prefer the '2.

You'll be bringing the 2 on our annual pilgrimage to the Ring next year then Al?

That should be exciting on so many levels! biggrin

I'm definitely not bringing anything valuable! That place is mental.
A battered and valueless MR2 will do the trick nicely. smile

Probably won't be bothering too many Lambos or M5s in the MR2 though!

Update on the Impreza. The garage agreed to do the 3.5% emissions test and it passed. biggrin

Bizarrely the highest it scored was 0.681%. This means that an ECU reset and a tank of wynns fuel injector cleaner has taken it from 4.7% to almost a pass.

Does that sound a tiny bit bizzare to anyone else?

Call to scoobyclinic methinks...
