Ive read somewhere here that a standard MK1 MR2 lapped a MK2 Turbo 7 seconds quicker. The drivers consider themselves to be of the same standard.
The Turbo cleaned up on the open road though.

This was also from the MR2 Turbo driver.

If I didnt read it here it was on an IMOC (International MR2 owners club) or MR2DC (drivers club) forum.

So if its a track day car then perhaps a stripped out MK1 would be better.

4 seats and RWD though,I guess it has to be a brown paper bag for your head and a BMW.

(E30 M3 for £4K? I bloody wish! I would have been hoonin around in a stripped out one for ages if that had been the case!)

I would say that you are riht on that one but most circuits have more twisties than straights anyway. Even the fastest, thruxton, a 911 C4 beat a very fast bike round due to the better cornering speeds.

Open roads though, no doubt the turbo wins.

The BMW 325i Sport (E30) is easily in your price range. Have a look on the BMW threads for more info.
The E30 M3 has been said to be the best handling car ever by lots of jornos. If you cant quite afford get the next best!

M3 was actually 5k I saw, sorry. Re MR2-1 vs MR2T, surely it depends on how twisty/open the track is? Wasn't particuly impressed with the IMOC forum.

The forum on the web page is totaly useless. OTOT the imoc-uk mailing list is a really good source of info and help. ( http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/imoc-uk/ )
