Probably what the two giggling little chappies thought who tried to race my GTI-r up a duel carriageway, the look on their face when they had to move over for a Nissan Sunny was priceless

Sponge Bob, I'll be in touch.

I made the mistake of taking on a Pulsar recently. I have permenant 4wd, and something like 250bhp.

Got eaten alive by the Nissan. It was a *long* way from standard......

Don't look too good?! They're fg hideous. The fact remains though that there is no other car that would have gone like the GTI-r for the money I paid. I like my cars to be fast rather than posey Though why I got the MR2 still baffles me

1998 Supra TT with VVTi and a manual box. In black please......

RX-7s are utterly stunning, and actually quite cheap to buy. Power delivery is, well, brutal, and they're an utter sod to fix should it break engine wise.

Oh, and it drinks fuel....

Still a batmobile though. Yum

The GTS isnt lower and stiffer than the GT turbo. I had one ('93 rev 2) and compared to other GT turbos theres was no difference in it being any lower or stiffer. (compared to other t-bars anyway, my mates GT non t-bar definately had more rigidity) No idea if its lighter as i never weighed it to conform it.

However, i had some silly cow run into the back of me once which required the rear bumper replacing, according to the toymnotor stealership the steel bit behind the plastic bumper wasnt steel it was carbon fibre. whether thats standard for a gts or a previous owner did it to save weight i couldnt tell you.....

>the Nissan would leave the MRT through the twists, but the Toyota has the outright straight line pace

Really?!?!?
I would have thought a well driven (read: driven by a master of MR cars) tubby would have the better of the nissan through the twists due to better balance and mechanical grip.. obviously it would bite your arse clean off if you took any liberties though

how much does the nissan weigh?

P.S. what's all the tubby-owners recommendations for insurance companies... every time someone mentions an MR2Turbo I find myself going through the whole will-I-wont-I debate all over again!!!

MR2 owners club has a good deal with Dorset (as does the GT4OC).

Guess who insures me.

Gazboy - What you say about the manuals from NZ is interesting, your right, the tin tops are most definately stiffer. BUT, I knew several people with GT & GTS turbos and there was no diference in rideheight or stiffness when comparing t-bar to t-tar (as mine was)

Ive been thinking recently about buying another MR2 Turbo hence my interest in this thread. Not trying to be argumentative, just interested based on my experience!

Having driven a GT, my GTS definately feels like it has harder springs. In fact it's so stiff that the ride is bordering on unacceptable on rough roads, and this is with the standard Toyota/Bilstein dampers and stock springs.

I was told that the GTS was sold as more of a track day car, which is why most everything was optional (i.e. tinted windows, aircon, stereo) but was fitted as standard to the GT.

Gaz, are you sure about the Turbo G-Limited? I've certainly never seen one. The G-Limited was the higher spec version of the G, in much the same way as the GT/GTS. All the G-Limited's I looked at before buying my GTS had the NA 3SGE engine, which would have had 175bhp on the Rev3+.

Nope, not getting confused, mine was a GT-S and a t-bar, there are plenty about, nothing rare about them.

Not sure if Ben's MR2 FAQ is wrong but:

"The 'base' GT-S or GT was a hard-top, but could be upgraded at extra cost to a T-Bar. The GT-S has cloth trim, and GT has leather/ suede trim and extra features such as full climate control rather than normal air-conditioning."

Although why you'd want to turn your MR2 into a flexible, twisting, squeaking and leaking car is beyond me.

Oi! i'll have you know that the T-bars don't twist, squeak or leak at all.......that much........

seriously though, i've been in hard top MR2 and the difference isn't all that, but i'm sure if you were to take them to a track...........
