Mazda service books- no longer supplied.. true or false?

In the process of buying a 2006 MX5 and the owner says that Mazda don't issue service books (the thing they stamp when you've had a service) any more. Apparently all the records are kept at the dealers.

Seems like bull to me but anybody care to comment?
