Specifically convertible if possible....interested in knowing what the car would top if the 155 limiter was removed!? Thanks

Well thats a reasonable estimate I suppose...just comparing figs as I'm coming from a Boxster S and that is down for 165 with no limiter (appreciate the 2 cars are not just about figures but doing the 'top trumps'thing anyway) ...put a deposit down on a 335 conv and very excited about seeing it tomorrow to buy if all is as good as advert says!

Yea I'd say standard they must be about that... not sure on the convertible though as it's slightly heavier.

There's a few youtube's out there I think, check them out (if you care that is, as I certainly do)

Not quite what you want but I've personally piloted a re-mapped/de-restricted 335d off the clock, so that would have been easily 160 allowing for speedo run out as the revs were at 4500rpm.

report back please. i am currently in a 330ci and connsidering the trade up next year. early research shows the m3 is stupid on the gas, but the 335 is old M3 performance with 30mpgs combined?! let us know how you get on! cheers

Will do..just a few restless nights and pick it up on Sat..frustratingly enough my old man will have to drive the 230 miles back and I'll be in persuit in the company Astra as they wont insure him on it! Its 6 months old, but BMW website now speccs it with 7 speed SMG which does more than 30 and better than the manual etc.

i would have thought a true 165ish maybe alittle more. i wouldn't have though 170 is possible without more power.

165mph (ish) is still impressive!

If Alpina claim that the B3 BiTurbo will do 174mph unlimited with 360bhp, there is no way that a stock 335i should reach that speed. I would also agree that 160-165 seems more realistic.

I think a 335d is good for about the 155 that it's limited to, but it would struggle to get past it in my experience.

E36 has a cd of .32, the 335i with large wheels is also .32. but he frontal area of the E90 is much larger than the E36 (2.11M vs 1.9M sq) which is the more important figure. i would also have thought E36 is able to pull max revs with the shorter gear ratios, where as the 335 isn't able to pull max revs due to longer gearing.
to many factors imho to actually state what would be the max speed of the 335i. what we do know is the Alpina is capable of can a stock 335i keep in touch (top speed) with a 996 3.6 C2 and maserati 3200GT? which are true 170mph+ mph cars.. the Alpina can because it produces power very close to that of the 3200GT.

M3 MPG stupid on gas? What mpg do you think it has for it to be stupid?

335 old M3 performance!! Maybe on a straight .... laugh

I think the top speed of 335i is about 164-167mph from experience, 335d is around 159mph. Not sure how the vert compares to the coupe though.

do you know differently or just defending your own car? (genuinely interested not having a pop) i could just buy a CSL for some money I suppose but its old idea

I think the top speed of 335i is about 164-167mph from experience, 335d is around 159mph. Not sure how the vert compares to the coupe though.

This lot in the link below tested the 135, 335 and E46 M3 and came to a different conclusion than what you state to be as 'fact'.

dunno if the E36 M3 .32 fig is for the large wheels or not. the more important part if the frontal area figure which is smaller than the E90. that is true due to the E36 being a smaller car over all in both width and height.

i'm not surprised it doesn't do 170 at all. it isn't a dedicated sport car like the 996/cayman which all have excellent Cd and frontal area figures. to hit 165ish is still impressive not matter which way you look at it. even if the 335i does produce more than 306.. it doesn't produce 350+ which is what would be required to hit 170. this is all rather pointless since we don't know how the 335i will feel at max speed. hitting 155mph is one thing but going past that is another. it is one thing to design a car to sit 155mph and other to do the same at 170. imho 165mph is still impressive.

all possible numbers for sure. not going to disagree. one thing calculate numbers from pen and paper another to actually get a car to hit 170 in the real world with head winds/cross winds etc as i said before if the 335i can hit 170 then its capable of playing with a maserati 3200GT, cayman S, 996 c4, E46 M3. etc imho it isn't capable of playing with cars in that sector. i'm surprised that the E90 318 with 143ps only does 130..
gonna have agree to disagree.
