I have read things but need some serious answers.

Does replacing the inlet manifold on a 328i with one from a 325i increase the bhp?

Current stats of my 328i :

Piper Cross Induction kit,

De-Restricted (chipped)

BHP Output 214; Torque 214 lb's

Also any additional comments would be appretiated.

Thanks Mike smile

The 320 and the 325 were of the M50 series of engines, and had separate manifolds for each.
the 320 produced 150bhp, and the 325 came in at 192.

When the M52 series of engines came out, they used one manifold over the entire range, which was 320/323 and 328's.

320 2.0 M52 = 150, Same as the M50 engine
323 2.5 M52 = 170, Down 22bhp against the previous 2.5
328 2.8 M52 = 193,

Estimates would say a 328 would have produced about 215bhp so it's also down by 22bhp

The loss isn't purely to do with the manifold, but it shows that a 320 "spec" unit was fitted to the larger m52 models which pulled the power down.

fitting a 325 spec manifold will free up some breathing capacity

2.2 was it not?

Anywho, have a look over on e36coupe.com if you're not already a member. Theres loads of info and that is a popular modification along with a BBTB. Should free up some ponies.

^^^ yes

You're mixing up BHP and PS there. You might be able to get 220bhp from a 2.8, but think about where you want it to produce the power.

Maybe so, but the difference between BHP and PS is a fair bit less than the spread of measured outputs.

As for the M52 320 2.2, There was one of them, which is the more common e46 engine, but a 2.0 M52 did make it into some e36's, mostly tourers, which makes for a nice comparison between m50 and m52 with similar outputs and displacement.

.
The M52 was a 150bhp 2.0, it was the later M54 that was a 170bhp 2.2

Thanks for the answers!!!

Would you recomend buying a manifold from a breaker?

Also i my n/s/r spring has gone, does anyone suggest an upgrade or to just replace the originals.

I dont want to buy dampers as well!

Cheers

Yep, a breaker would be the easiest and probably cheapest place to buy a manifold. If it looks ok then go for it (or even one off a E34 525i)

Rear springs seems to break all the time, aftermarket ones cost about £30 from GSF (not sure what a genuine BMW costs)
