It would be churlish to dub the 335d as 'cr8p'. On the contrary, it is probably the most technically complete compact executive saloon on the market. Equally, it would be erroneous to depict it as a 'sports car' or compare it with such cars.

Hope you don't think I'm prying, but what do you do Carlos, for a living, to be able to consider chopping in the E92 for an E60 M5? They can't be similar prices, can they??? eek
I think his Dad currently has an E60 M5 so I would imagine he'd do him a deal when he changed.

As far as I was aware no-one said the 335d was cr8p, they merely said that perhaps it wasn't the most suitable car for a photoshoot...again, the context is the bit that most people missed.

Oh, and hate to be contentious, but is any modern saloon truly 'compact', seems to me the new 3 is the same size as last gen 5, with BMW just fitting in a new 'small' car (the 1) that's the same size as the old 3. (and I'm not saying that it's only BMW that are guilty of this. (I actually blame those lovely fellas at EuroNCAP)

Can't wait for a few generations time when I'll be able to get a nice new compact 1 series that takes up the same space as a current 7 series...

Indeed - this appears to be happening everywhere: Pug 207 is huge, Honda Civic, MINI, Golf, etc.

Hi Guy im back.

RTight, i paid for the car in December, after having the car as my own without costing me anything (bar insurance for a short while and fuel) since march 07. Not that i should have to explain anything to anyone about my situation really. But as your all showing a bleedin interest (cue the ''i aint interested in you blah blah'' comments... WHY the hell do some of you keep asking then...?!)

Company insurance, so insuring a 996 turbo aint an issue. Even on my own name i doubt it would be more than 1500 quid.

Regarding finding a corner. The car handles very well considering its lack of an LSD. But thats evolution for you. Im sure a modern day BMW will outhandle an older M model just through evolution alone. If they dont then BMW are doing something wrong. I have a mate whose tracked his stock 335d and lives with his mates M coupe all day long. So its not an ill handling car just because its a heavy diesel engined large barge coupe. It aint no supercar but does handle for its size very well.

What it does, it does well.

I am very happy with it and yet to come across a 335d owner whose not happy with theirs.

It is sporty enough to drive. It has ''soul'' so to speak and isnt a bland piece of engineering which i believe some cars are.

I enjoy my car, you enjoy your car.. lets all group hug!

Carlos

But there'll still only be as much room inside as in an E30 3 series! I've got a 335d, and large though it seems on the outside, there's definitely less space inside than an E39 5 has.

I believe it's because BMW have to make room for all that sound deadening so you can't hear M3 drivers crying as you overtake them... wink

Pete

p.s. I'm joking about the M3 drivers. You can't even see them through the choking clouds of black smoke, let alone hear them over the Routemaster bus rattle and tyre noise from the runflats biggrin

Sounds like you've been cut quite badly by a mixture of wind ups and a few jealous wannabes (lada and mondeo owners).

Lets get this straight - The car on your post, whilst modern and commonplace (the marque, not the model) is cool as f*ck!
Yes, ferrari's are wonderful and look great with a half naked (or maybe fully?) lovely draped over the bonnet, but so does your 335d.

Congrats on having such a cool car at 24, at that age I was running a 416 rover SLi, and pleased with it (lol).

The posts can get your blood up, but we are only venturing opinions. Don't rise to it - It's funnier to see some of the posts that originate at the end of the thread; some people get so wound up over such trivial things!

Perhaps you should have asked your Dad a bit nicer, then?

To get a 335d, I'd have had to get him to flog one of his kidneys
