I bought one a year ago, it was 4 months old, I wanted an LCI with the double screen.
Tech Pack seems to be on a lot of them and it's combined with Comfort Pack a lot of the time.
Comfort Plus gives electric memory seats which was requirement for me. It's daft that a car at this level doesn't have them as standard.
At the time, anything with Comfort Plus seemed to sell immediately, and dealers were not willing to discuss any discount to the advertised price. I missed out on 3 of them.
My wife's i4 has a sunroof, if I was looking for a 340i now I'd want the Comfort Plus pack and a sunroof. Mine (Dravit & black leather) would hugely benefit from some more light.

Agree 100%! Both my F31 and G21 had a panoramic sunroof and if someone had said to me I could only keep one of the options I'd specced on each car it would have been the sunroof - it improves cabin ambience no end IMO. And neither of my cars had black interiors either - if they had it would have made the sunroof even more desirable! Vee said:

Thank you both, I was about to pull a trigger on a car with the comfort and technology pack but you have given me food for thought and maybe it's best I wait till one pops up with comfort plus +/- sunroof. I do find it ridiculous how a 55k+ car doesn't have electric seats as standard and how much more expensive the driver assistant plus option is even from factory!Edited by ha03274 on Monday 26th February 18:41

Any with a reg originating in Thorne (YA-YL) and absolutely no options (they normally have red brake calipers too), AVOID. They're probably ex-rentals and have been absolutely flogged- I've had a fair few through work and used launch control more times than I can count, as have many of my colleagues. I've seen a few of them pop up on the used market too...
Other than that, the tech pack is probably the one I'd personally think is 'essential'- the HUD is fantastic, and Harmon Kardon is a worthwhile upgrade. Adaptive suspension is probably decent, but in my view not necessary, I've never had a complaint about the ride in the base cars I've driven- whereas I despised the S-Line 2.0TFSI Audi A4's I've driven for the ride...
Thanks for the heads up! Don’t they all come with adaptive suspension? These are definitely on my radar now early ones are getting close to mid-20s with reasonable miles and a decent spec. How are they holding up reliability wise?
Anything scary if one was to be run without a warranty?
As far as I'm aware... not much. Most the really scary issues with previous iterations of BMW turbo-6's seem to have been fixed (e.g. crank hub, cam ledge, rod bearings). I think the UK cars get the beefier oil cooler as standard, which can get punctured and lead to a rapid unscheduled oil-change, although aftermarket guards exist. Other than that, just the general BMW scariness where any minor failure results in a minimum £500 bill at the dealer.Anything scary if one was to be run without a warranty?
The MHT cars might be worth avoiding for longer-term ownership ('21 onwards I think) but do give you very smooth start-stop and coasting. And most COVID-era ones will have bits missing due to chip shortages- so check it over thoroughly if there's any bits of tech you'd desperately miss- my Mum has a 4 Series should have a wireless charger but doesn't for that very reason.

I'm also looking at getting an M340i touring, i was going to ask about the adaptive suspension so good to know it's standard.
I'm looking at spending under £35k so the early 2020 ones, I haven't seen one yet without HK, was it standard fit too?
I've had an autotrader search saved for a a few months and the prices have definitely softened since Christmas.

We have had an early (2019) Touring for a year now and I was saying to Mrs S3 over the weekend that I can see us owning it for years. She's the main user but I use it frequently so electric memory seats were a must. She also has Raynauds so the heated steering wheel was also needed. That made Comfort pack essential. We also wanted pano sunroof to brighten things up inside (I hate pale interiors) so that was also a must have. That left Tech pack which we weren't that bothered about but as it happens the car we eventually sourced 500 miles from home had it too. The HUD is great, the gesture control utterly ste, sound is OK but not mesmerising.
We considered Dravit grey but when we saw one on a dull day it looked awful. Couldn't live with a colour that looked great in sun, not at other times. There were only 4 cars in the UK with that spec a year ago and we plumped for the Portimao Blue all the way up in Aberdeen which we don't regret at all, especially having ditched the black wheels that came with the Black pack.
Ours has been trouble free (and having been preceded by a 335d and a couple of Mini Cooper S, all of which were faultless) I can say BMW are right up there reliability wise. Economy is great for the power output. Such a shame they went widescreeniPad/buttonless on the LCI, one of the reasons ours will be a keeper.

There is definitely a long term keeper theme to this thread. Whilst my car is a little different (440d), I intend to keep it for many years as opposed to changing it as previous vehicles every 3 years.
I wonder if this keeping the vehicle for longer is not good for the dealerships that want you to change regularly.

Thanks for those. I've seen the colour at a dealership and it did pop when the little of bit of sun that was out hit it but it looked very dark, almost black when it was overcast and I'm worried about keeping it clean having had a black car for past 12 years. How has it been living with it on a daily basis especially in the winter and all the grime and salt on the road?I have a Dravit grey car, it's a real colour shift paint, it goes from flat dark grey to metallic brown in some lights and everything in between you can come back to different colour car depending on the light conditions, however in the UK the hue you see most often is a flat dark grey due to our dull and overcast sky's.
I’ve only ever had black cars apart from my M3 before this (Silverstone, didn’t like black in that shape) and now this.
My choices were black, dravit and skyscraper, this came up first and I really like it.
My cars don’t really get cleaned much (every 3 months when I have time or can be bothered). It shows grime less than the black (wife has a sapphire black i4).
