What?!?!

Edited by Mr Will on Friday 9th May 10:22
Monday evening coming back across country, as you do in a CSL, and I overtook someone on a long straight.
As I went pass them and pulled back in a hare came into the road, I put my brakes on as hard as I dared but didn't want them rear ending me, but still hit the poor old hare.
I saw the flipper was missing from the front and could see bits of carbon across the road, so ordered a new front flipper.
When it arrived I realised there was no where to attach it, the bottom of the bumper had been ripped off all round.

I ordered a new one and they only come painted and were £2880 including vat.

It arrived on the Wednesday and I fitted it the following Monday.

On the Thursday I was coming back from London down the A11 through road works, it was dark and pissing down with rain but I could see something in the road, again I broke as hard as I could but hit what was in the road.
It was a cone that had blown over and was facing away from me, so I could only just make it out as it was the black base.
The guy behind me helped me get it out from under the bumper but once again the bumper was finished.

The guys at BMW thought I was joking when I rang the next day asking for a new bumper!

To be fair they took £800 off the second one, and the guys doing the roadworks paid out in the end, but took nearly 2 years of hassling them.

Oh, and at that price you had to return the old bumper, even if it was just a piece that was 6" square, BMW Germany insisted on the old one in return. Otherwise there was a £700 premium.

That same month my warrnaty ran out, so that was £1050, I had also lost my garage and my insurance went from £600 to £1400 on the street. With fuel and tax that month cost me just over £7000 and that was when I decided that the CSL was not for me. A stupid move as I sold it with 16k miles for £32k and I bet I would get £35k+ for it now some 3 years later.

Can you get them in carbon fibre, like the CSL really should have had?

Can understand someone putting an M3 or CSL engine into a 318 and leaving the body standard ( hiding the exausts somehow )which would make lots of people you come across on the road eat humble pie but the bodykit idea for me is a nono.

Congratulations for having the guts to admit that in public.

Now, just pause for a moment and think...

Would you don an Arnold Schwarzenegger mask and run round in your underpants, shouting with a crap German accent?

No, thought not.

So, what's the point? ttting up your car is pointless because most members of the public have no idea what a CSL is, and those who do will piss themselves laughing at you for trying to pass your old steed off as one.

The dealer is being kind to you, now go back and say thank you.

Wind up...?

I've a Ferrari 360 and want to make an MR2 MkII clone using it as the insurance would then be cheaper. Toyota won't sell me a body kit for it.. any suggestions?

IIRC selling M and CSL parts to proven owners of those cars is a standard BMW policy. Obviously this doesn't apply to M Sport bits, only the proper stuff. I don't think you can even get a proper M badge for the boot without proof of ownership.

I just tried to get an M135i badge and they wouldn't allow me to buy it without a V5.

Because some poor sod would not know what they were buying other than the badges and could be fooled if you rebadged a lower spec car. Unlikely to us.. but imagine watchdog (which I despise its so limp) and Ann "how can you justify a £1m salary running a massive business when I only get paid 5x that for giving a dodgy wink while saying you are the weakest link" Robinson trying to berate the management if they didn't put in some controls?
