I haven't read this thread yet so excuse my stupidity. I'm seeing lots of newer BM's with the facia piece that covers headlamp wash and tow eyes missing, is this connected to attempted thefts?
Tow eye covers fall off with the slightest breeze.
Headlamp wash jets / covers go into orbit if you try then when the fluids frozen.

Also I have recently bought a 56 plate X3 2.0d. Would these be a possible target?
If it has push button start, yes.roofer said:

Ok so I live I chiswick London and I have been aware for some time that somebody had been getting into my 1 Series convertible at will. I traded my company car in and bought my own. Same thing happened, it would be rifled through regularly. Then on Saturday night just gone it got nicked. No signs of anything being smashed. Police have been warning people for some time on the local sign posts. I had intended to get a krooklock.
I actually think this cloud has a silver lining for me, I lost my car but should hopefully get most of the money back, surely BMW insurance premiums will soon rocket, and so the resale value of these cars will drop and they will be practically worthless.
BMW are no doubt putting their head in the sand hoping this goes away, but soon it'll catch up on them. I have had BMs for 5 years. No more. It's just not worth it. Cash down the drain. Moving to a nice low profile VW I think.
Will save the money for track days.
Totally gutted And fell massively let down by BMW. Never again.

Lots of really useful posts here, I've looked, but can't find definitive list of what's at risk? In particular, I'm looking at a 12 plate X3 35d, should I be concerned? BTW my dealer doesn't know what I'm talking about!
bottom line... if you have a push start button your at risk!1. Disable/Move OBD
2. Warning Stickers
3. Disklock
and id seriously consider an aftermarket alarm - i did all the above and the extra its the only way to keep one step ahead.
best of luck
As a BMW owner who is affected by the key issue this is an interesting thread from across the pond discussing problems here and offering a reason why it is more of a problem in Europe

I'm not sure that's true. Yet to see any reported OBD thefts of F series BMWs - all of the reports that I've read on this thread are E series - but very keen to know if they are affected as I have an F25Give it another 12 months or so and it could be a different story by then.
I don't think there is as yet, an true comfirmation that they are not able to be taken in the same way.

is this official enough? http://www.safer-neighbourhoods.co.uk/your-neighbo...
I've posted on another thread that I've tried to ask this question to an Official BMW dealership and got shot down saying I have no right to ask such a stupid question.

That is truly disgraceful. Perhaps it's time we started naming and shaming dealers, as well as BMW UK, on here. (I would gladly begin, but actually my dealer has been helpful.)Remember, provided you tell the truth, you cannot be pursued for defamation.

Did you see this?

Look closely the police have even kindly got a BMW roundel on the notice just to make sure you know they are talking about BMWs not other marques (see that BMW NOT other makes!!!!!)
My 1 series has been rifled more than once as well ,I thought I was going mad till I saw this thread.
According to the police who I spoke to about an update of my stolen BMW is that BMW initially asked them to keep the thefts quiet and provided them with sting cars to try and catch the thieves but clearly this hasn't worked!
Since my car got stolen 2 weeks ago I have heard of 3 others going in the same way, all X5's and all black
