I do think there are a lot of people who are so financially ignorant, that they either don't do or can't do the maths to work out they would be better off paying off the balloon. For a fair few people it may just be a subconscious decision to chop in and replace with a new...

It might not always be that cut and dry...

Lots of businesses are closing company car schemes in favour of allowances (we've just done it), so people are personal leasing instead sometimes changing every few years out of habit / not seeing the car allowance as wages. Some car allowances have age limits attached to them, forcing you to stay on the PCP / lease cycle.
