RE: Z4 Confirmed

Nice video's, looks like the Cayman has a real challanger...the handeling looks OK to me, a good grippy car, and not that much overhang in the corners...get the speedlimitter off and take it to Ring Germany when its all ready for the battle against the Cayman...I think they will do this within 6 months time

Out of interest, most people get it wrong when comparing the unladen weights of Porsche and BMW. Porsche quote either a DIN weight or EC weight (DIN + 68kg driver + 7kg luggage), whereas BMW quote an EU1 weight (DIN + 68kg + 7kg + 90% fuel). So the DIN weight of the Cayman is 1340kg whereas the Z4M Coupe is 1382kg.
I think this car looks great, and having seen quite a few Porsche Gayman's out and about on the roads, and parked up, have to say they look very dull and boring to me, definitely a poor substitute looks wise for a 911.
Be interested in trying the M version of this Bimmer, shame they aren't giving it a bit more poke to distance it more from the 3 litre, and the competiton.

Oh yes now that is tremendously handsome, if it wasn't for the extreme aesthetic beauty of the entire BMW range I'd say that is the best looking car in the universe. The back is a particularly resolved and coherent design and I just love the way the front hangs down in that wonderfully droopy fashion! I shall be purchasing one of these based on looks alone, I truly am enamoured.

No. Sorry. The first four words triggered my sarcasm-alert

B 7 VP,
Show me a new £44k Cayman and I'll show you a Boxster with a hard top.
Almost all Cayman's ordered have have £3 - 4k of extras, and its very easy to get to a £50+k car. On that basis, and making some assumption about specs., the £38k Z4M coupe looks a very good buy indeed.

I've driven the Cayman, owned a Boxster S in the past, owned many M3s and currently own an M3 CSL. The Cayman was very good, but let's not get carried away, it was good because it had excellent body control and poise, turned in well and was very stable and responsive once in the corner. None of these attributes are strangers to the M3's chassis, perhaps the Cayman's steering feel will be better, but since the Z4M Coupe is merely a lighter, lower M3 I see no reason why the Cayman should possess better handling. The Z4M Coupe will be set up slightly softer and will be much easier to drift and oversteer on demand, they both sound good although the Cayman's induction noise sounds slightly artificial (as it does on the Boxster). Pricing up a Z4 M Roadster on BMW's Configurator adds around £3k to the price (for an ideal spec) so that makes the Z4M Coupe around £44-45k on the road (compared to the Cayman which is typically £48-50k on average). And whilst that's only £4-5k difference one car is nearer £40k on the road whilst the other is nearer £50k...
