Why do you want to badge a 745i as a 760i?

Thats embarrassing, its either a 745i or debadged.

Very bad taste imo.

Should do. It's only M badges that some dealers are strict on.

I bought a 316i badge without owning one so a BMW dealer will help you, was about £15 IIRC.

De-badging is one of my pet hates I'm afraid and for some reason it's something usually reserved for BMW's.

What's the harm in having a badge saying what the car is? Most people will assume it's something lesser anyway. Anyone who knows their BMW's will be able to tell and no-one is going to mistake it for an M3 or something a bit special.

I just don't see the point.

Many years ago....(oh here we go)
I built an escort estate with an 1860 lump, twin 40s etc.

I bought special badges for it which said
1100

I believe thats the point

I guess you are slightly less likely to get scrotes knicking the badge for whatever reason via screwdriver. Of course there is still the Roundel to steal but some like to have the trophy of the specific model, or to stick a stolen 330i badge on their ratty E30 316i along with taped on M3 mirrors also stolen, to impress their scrote acquaintences .

why do people 'de-badge'? is it to fool others into to thinking its an "M"?

IMO a Q car with no badges and a big engine is cool, a whale tailed CSL with 116 is humourous, a 745i badged as a 760i to cover the owners inadequecy is embarrassing.

I may be in the minority, and I may not even be believed, but I don't want to de-badge it so people think it's a superior model.

At the end of the day, it's a 3 series coupe. It doesn't have the arches, bumpers or wheels of an M3 so only the worst kind of moron will think it is one. As for people thinking it's a 330 or something......bothered

I'm afraid my reasons are quite sad:

Reason 1: It's easier to polish and keep the bootlid clean.
Reason 2: It just tidies up the look of the back of the car.

I'm with you totally on people who put a 330 badge on their 316 - what's the point? It's like buying fake clothes...

But then I have to say, what's the point of putting a 316 badge on a CSL? It's a bit cheeky but not my taste I'm afraid...

Saw a very sad V reg 328Ci today with an "M-Power" badge on the bootlid.

The worst I've seen was when out for a walk recently, a chap in a 330cd stopped for directions, pretty much a standard 3 series diesel coupe, no fancy mods, then he pulled off and as well as the 330d badge on the boot on the other side was M3
Wish I'd given him duff directions then

Assuming it's something lesser is exactly the intended effect. In the case of our debadged Sport 535d, it's now not obviously different from any of the others looks wise. Surely it makes it slightly less stealable and also less ostentatious? To each their own I guess.

The best one I ever saw was a 15" wheeled, cloth seated, absolute base model e46 which had M3 badges on the back, sides and front plus a ludicrous spoiler tacked on for good measure. 'twas hapilly trundling down the middle lane (inner lane empty of course) of the M56.

I've seen a 316 compact with all the stupid extras you could want plus 18" wheels. On the bootlid - M3.

Just sad and tacky IMHO.

I have an E36 compact in Club Sport trim that has M3 badges on the side (you can just see them in the picture on my profile), and it really does seem that it rolled out of the factory like that. I'm seriously considering replacing them, if I can, with plain old ///M badges.

While there is a certain amount of M in the car, it's certainly not an M3!

I had a similar sort of thing a few years back. My car was a left hand drive 318is. A colleague bought it when he was in the forces over in germany new.
It was an absolute clone of the M3GT but in black. The M3'gt's were in British racing green. It was a fantastic looking car, had a plate on the dash saying limited motorsport edition number 154 out of 500 made. The strips on the door were the same as yours but with "BMW motorsport" with a pattern behind them.

Wonder if it would have eventually been worth something.....

It's not just BMWs. I will chase after the next 1.6 A4 i see with an S4 badge on the back and beat teh drive to death with whatever comes to hand. It's @@ like them that mean Audi don't have any S4 badges left, hence me having the wrong badges on mine.

There is no such thing as club sport trim on a 318ti.

It might be an M Sport model - which would have had a M on the side moldings from the factory but not an M3. If its got M3 on the side badges then they have been replaced.
