Keeping up with the Jones' eh?

Whats the 7 series accross the road? Alpina?
biggrin Keeping up with the Jones' doesn't interest me (otherise it would have had to be a 335i). Colour is Le Mans.

It's my neighbours rather fruity sounding Alpina B7. He also has a F355 in his garage. Not sure if he deals or is just a good old fashioned gangster.

Um Emmissions CO2 is lower in the 325d so less comp car tax.
the old 330i was 231bhp.
Yeah I know that, but my point was, when the 330i was the top of the range with 231bhp it was regarded as one of the best engines ever built, by anyone.
The old 330i did 0-60 in 6.3 seconds and the new 3.0l badged as a 325i does it in 6.7 seconds, and all of a sudden everyone is saying it is a nothing engine, I borrowed one and thought it was great.
Plus the MPG was stunning, mid thirties easily, plus is is over 130lbs lighter than the diesel so handles better too.

If they are both autos then the diesel may be the better choice if munching miles, but if you are buying a manual it has to be the petrol for me, constantly swapping cogs in a diesel manual is horrible!!

Diesel is .7 seconds slower too.

Only one reason I would buy the diesel and that is residual value, although the 325d is also a nothing car and looses loads, in fact the 325d was more expensive than the 330d because of the residuals when I got quotes.

The 325d isnt a nothing car.

318d has 144bhp
320d has 177bhp & 350Nm
325d has 204bhp & 400Nm
330d has 231bhp & 500Nm

its not as economic as the 320d nor as fast as the 330d. so it is a bit of a nothing car

Well of course its not as fast as the 330d its 27bhp & 100Nm down on it & vs the 320d its 27bhp & 50Nm up.

The 2ltr is much more peaky than the I6.

Of course its not as frugal as the 2ltr in fact its similar to the 330d a little better - but your saving a few thousand pounds on the purchase price.

When BMW roll out the x23d unit which has identical bhp & Torque as the 325d clearly it will be ditched. I wonder IF BMW will actually make a 2500cc TDI with sequential turbos thus giving 330d power & torque but much more economical. Or maybe they really make a hyper power x23d unit but badge it differently.

From your comments you could say that the 320d is a bit of a nothing car & you should opt for the 318d... its hardly any slower much more economical & a few thousand cheaper to buy.

I assume that the 325i has the same detuned 3.0l n52 as the 125i. So did BMW detune it with different cams, manifolds etc or is it done by using a very soft engine map? I wonder if they can be mapped back up to the standard n52 power figures?
