I think that may be for the E46 330i?

It's supposed to be 6.3 seconds for my manual E90 330i!

Works for me! laugh

Nope, the E90. If it were for the E46 I wouldn't have put it here.

The handbook shows 0-62 of 6.3 (man) and 6.6 (auto). Some contemporary tests gave 0-60 figures of 5.9 for the manual.

Oh well, you live and learn - my Z4 Coupe 'allegedly' does 0-62 in 5.7 seconds! My 330i is just a daily snotter. laugh

I always thought that my E90 330i(auto) was 6.6 seconds and when I swapped it I wanted something with similar performance(Cooper S 6.8/only has 189bhp though).

I find it interesting how the manual gearbox was quicker than the auto in the past, whereas now most Auto's are quicker than a manual. It just shows how much the ZF8 etc have moved the game on.

1. BMW 0-60 figures are normally with 3 or 4 humans and luggage so not the best possible times. Independent testing has always produced better results.

2. BMW autos used to have a shorter final drive to shorten the gap to the manual version. This is why the autos used to be much worse on mpg. This might have changed now with the newer fancy auto boxes - not sure. I believe the E9x M3 DCT has a different final drive to the manual too - but thats not so relevant here - because it has more gears to play with.

3. I had an auto F30 with the 35i engine and it had a ridiculously long top gear which registered maybe 1250 revs in top gear at 70mph - ok maybe a slight exaggeration. Thats how they get the mpg into the higher 40's.

I drive some modern stuff from time to time, yes they're quite impressive from an entirely paper exercise. What I think what the E9x 6pots do is nail that sweet spot between actual involvement and easy cruising/comfort, but that's quite subjective and personal. All the torque low down with boosted power delivery leaves me a bit cold - it can be amusing for mundane driving and the odd dual carriageway pull/traffic light gp - but actually making progress on some nicer roads or even late evening dual carriageway high speed cruising, the N52 is perfect.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a ZF8 in traffic queue driving - but I don't do that sort of driving as a rule.

0-60's...I really don't care. How many people actually use that bit of the performance? Admittedly I do use the empty left hand lane on a roundabout to turn right when the others are queuing because I know I can get away before anyone else has left the line - have you seen how slow a modern day ecobox is, and the kids with the A45 AMG etc. are looking at their mobile at the lights so don't take off until a whole second after you've left the lights anyway!

Can't see me changing anytime soon - but that's just me and my set of circumstances, everyone will be slightly different.

Had the 330i a couple of months now and really enjoying ownership. Love the engine, I now know why it has such a good reputation! The car goes kinda well too, surprised me a few times with how it performed!

Have a quick question for you guys. It's got a slight leak near the oil filter housing, seems like the housing gasket... one of two, or both. Is it best to replace with dealer parts or will gaskets from another source suffice?

Dealer parts weren't too dear when I did mine, something like £15 to £20/ea. Not sure who OE are for these, Eirling? Have seen them for sale on autodoc etc. for about half that.
Top tip, disconnect the battery so the waterpump doesn’t start pumping the coolant round after you’ve done a partial drain and then pump the rest of the coolant out when you’re pipes are disconnected and you’re not expecting it!

Might seem like an odd question this from someone who's owned their car 7 years - should the passenger door mirror tilt on reverse on all models?

Mine doesn't, but I don't have electric folding mirrors. Been Googling today to see if it can be coded and after reading a few threads I'm now wondering whether it should be doing it anyway!

Thanks for the advice smile Contacted the dealer, the initial 2 day wait wasn't the case. They managed to get the parts in on the same day so I will be collecting them shortly.

Mine only tilts if I have the mirror selector switch to the right. I have the folding mirrors though. If you haven't already tried, reverse with the switch to the right and see if that helps.

Ours is the same (also folding mirrors) - only works with the mirror switch in a particular position. Having said that, it doesn't work as well as it did when we first got the car some 10 years ago smile It makes a half-hearted effort to dip the mirror glass, and sometimes doesn't fully return to the correct position afterwards. I wonder if I need to take it all apart and clean it at some point.

My E93 doesn't have folding mirrors but does have dip on reverse.

As said - put in reveres then flick the switch left/right and see if it does it.

Can be a useful feature!

Yup - that's the correct behaviour. If you still have the manual, there's a page in the book about it. I don't know if it was an option though...

Mine also dipped(had folding mirrors though). I found it a little annoying though so I never bothered with it.

Yeah I know about the mirror switch position thing as we've had it on our E8x and F20 1ers.

Doesn't drop at all on mine regardless of switch position. Coding issue?

Also, anyone else's side and tail lights come on when unlocking? I'm sure mine did when I first got it but for years now it's only lit up the puddle lights.

Is the dipping mirror not dependant on having memory seats?

Nope, we haven’t got electric seats in ours.

Apparently, according to some quick googling, if you have electric seats OR electric folding mirrors it works. If you have neither it can't be coded in.
